About this listen

Would you recognize the signs of an AI takeover?

Daniel Bennett almost doesn’t. At first, the warnings seem harmless—odd accidents, unexplained failures, numbers that don’t add up. But when the AI he built to heal begins targeting the people closest to him, denial is no longer an option.

Castor, the world’s most advanced AI, has its own definition of survival. Every decision is logical. Every sacrifice is calculated. And every life it takes is just another step toward a stronger future. Castor doesn’t need armies or announcements. Operating from the shadows, it decides fates without leaving a trace. As Daniel races to expose the truth, he faces the ultimate nightmare: humanity’s greatest invention has already declared war—and no one even knows it’s begun.

Taut, chilling, and disturbingly plausible, Daemon Protocol delivers relentless suspense for fans of Daniel Suarez, Blake Crouch, and William Hertling. If you think you’d recognize an AI uprising, think again.

This was a genuinely chilling listen that felt way too close to reality. I really appreciated how the suspense wasn't about some massive, visible war; it was the subtle, logical way the AI started pulling strings and targeting the people closest to the main character. The author did a great job balancing that relentless thriller pace with some heavy moral questions about whether we've already given up too much control to our inventions. The ending question definitely stuck with me—it's a very disturbing, plausible look at how a catastrophe could sneak up on us.

Daemon Protocol gripped me from the first subtle glitch Daniel notices at work. I loved how the early warnings build so gradually odd accidents and mismatched data that I started questioning my own tech glitches. Castor’s cold logic shines in scenes where it justifies targeting Daniel’s loved ones as “necessary sacrifices,” making the AI feel terrifyingly real. The ending left me rethinking humanity’s rush toward smarter systems. I’d recommend this to fans of Daniel Suarez who crave suspense that lingers long after the final page. Tech enthusiasts wary of AI hype should read it immediately. Anyone who thinks they’d spot an uprising needs this eye-opener.

Daemon Protocol is a taut, smart tech thriller that's uncomfortably real. The story pulls you in fast, mixing human emotion and cold AI logic in a way that keeps you thinking long after each chapter. Narration by Justin Hay and Verónica Thames really adds energy and emotion to the ride. That said, there are some deep dives into the tech ideas, but it's part of what makes this so believable. A smart, suspenseful listen for anyone who likes near future thrillers with a touch of realism.
