Summary

Someone had spent time with her – someone well-practised in the art of pain....

Three and a half years ago, former Grant County medical examiner Sara Linton moved to Atlanta, hoping to leave her tragic past behind her. Now working as a doctor in Atlanta’s Grady Hospital, she is starting to piece her life together. But when a severely wounded young woman is brought in to the emergency room, she finds herself drawn back into a world of violence and terror.

The woman has been hit by a car but, naked and brutalised, it’s clear that she has been the prey of a twisted mind. When Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Investigation Team returns to the scene of the accident, he stumbles on a torture chamber buried deep beneath the earth. And this hidden house of horror reveals a ghastly truth: Sara’s patient is just the first victim of a sick, sadistic killer.

Wrestling the case away from the local police chief, Will and his partner Faith Mitchell find themselves at the centre of a grisly murder hunt. And Sara, Will, and Faith - each with their own wounds and their own secrets - are the only thing that stands between a madman and his next crime.

Typical Karin Slaughter

I have read several of Karin's books and have to say that I have enjoyed them all. My problem is that I have not read them sequentially, so the continuation of the main characters and their life story is a little lost on me, but that said, it does not detract from the main plot of the story and the missed history can be picked up quite easily. So not much lost there.

Well worth a listen in my opinion.

Had to keep listening!

I often listen to audio books just before I go to sleep; just put the ten-minute timer on and drop off. Not with this book. I found I just had to keep listening. I was deeply involved with the characters, their problems, their lives, their survival skills, their development through the story. It is Karin Slaughter's depth of character observation in this book that elevates Genesis way above the average crime drama.

Medals

Listen that terrible Southern accent for that many hours deserves a medal- for me really.

Excellent read!

Loved it from start to finish. Karin Slaughter's style of writing is easy to follow, not at all contrived or misleading. Each character has their own voice and the narrator does them justice. Can't wait to listen to more.

One of the best Karen Slaughter books I've read

I've not read a Karen Slaughter book in quite a while. Listening to Genesis read admirably by Jennifer Woodward I'm asking myself why not. The pace, twist and turns interpreted excellently by Jennifer kept me gripped to the very end. The only 'fly in the ointment' for me was the character of Will, a police detective who can't read or tell left from right. I found this slightly odd, how did he reach detective with this still a 'secret' as it was referred to several times during the story. This aside I did enjoy Genesis and look forward to listening to another Karen Slaughter especially if read by Jennifer.

Brilliant

This is the second Karin Slaughter that I've listened to and now I'm "hooked". It has to be said though, that it's pretty gory and difficult to listen to in places. However, the characters are so rounded and grounded and the story so compelling that I'll grit my teeth until they're done. The author is so clever and the narration is perfect for this work ... truly brilliant.

Consistently good from karin Slaughter

I have read quite a few books from this author and they can be relied upon to please every time. Even reading them out of order doesn't matter. The narrator was excellent too, imbuing the many voices well.
