A Solid Mystery Thriller which keeps you guessing!
- By Murder Mystery Thriller Fan on 23-06-20
Summary
What’s the life of your child worth?
It’s every mother’s nightmare - the abduction of her baby.
That’s how it starts for Erin Vogel when she is attacked and left unconscious in her apartment. When she awakes it is to find that Georgia, her six-month-old daughter, has been taken.
But Erin is given a chance to get Georgia back. At an unthinkable price. Like most mothers she has always said she would do anything for her child. Now the strength of that bond is about to be put to the ultimate test.
And when her actions arouse the interest of a certain Detective Callum Doyle, one thing is inevitable: a confrontation that will be as explosive as it is unforgettable.
From the highly acclaimed author of Pariah, The Helper, and Marked comes a nerve-shredding novel that questions the line we draw between good and evil.

Excellent
What did you like best about this story?
A twist from the ordinary. This is a bit different. Takes you to dark places you wouldn't normally explore.
What does Nick Landrum and Jennifer Woodward bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Excellent narration bringing the characters to life.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not far off. I really wanted to know what happened next and had to listen in only a few sittings.
Any additional comments?
This was a really good listen. Can't quite describe it as gripping, but it's not far off. Really interesting characters and a brilliant intertwined story. Really enjoyed it.

Worth sticking with
Not easy to get into - the narrator's voice to me sounded dated but I persevered and somehow the voice became hypnotic.
Twists and has a plausible but unforeseen crescendo that made me stay awake listening through to the end.
Very different to what I'd normally listen to and I'm glad I found it

a good twist makes you twist and shout
You have to accept the story as presented and follow the events as they unravel, like a magic trick you follow the magician and the sly to get the benefit of the trick the wander of of the magic that you know is not magic, but you still enjoy it. If this was a movie this would be a B movie but a very good B movie one of those directed by Brian De Palma (Carrie, Dressed to Kill).
Fast paced, and entertaining, a bit of gore and lots of violence, good character and dialogue in a modern noir style.
well acted, and produced.

Predictable, but enjoyable.
Alright, so I guessed the twist. But I still enjoyed it and I was definitely along for the ride. The only thing that was wrong was the pace of the female narrator. In the early part of the story I couldn't keep up with what she was saying. I don't know whether it was to portray the intensity of the situation, but I understood that from the words. I felt that, as we went on, she slowed down, but it could be that I was getting used to it.

This is my ultime favorite of 2015
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have and I will. You never catch on to what's really going on.
What other book might you compare Cry Baby to and why?
I can't ruin it by giving it away. I just simply love it!
Have you listened to any of Nick Landrum and Jennifer Woodward ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. I just happen to come across these 2 reviews for this book, I took a chance. Boy, did I ever come up winning. This book is awesome!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The first negotiation.
Any additional comments?

Riveting Physiological Thriller
I am not a fan of gruesome serial-killer cop-dramas, but this book is a exception.
It’s not a whodunit mystery, we know who does what all the way along, but rather it’s a riveting physiological thriller.
I did find that there were a few holes in the plot, and some of the twists were a little too convenient, but none of that mattered. Just wondering what would happen next and how it would all end kept the pages turning fast!

Just couldn't get through this
Any additional comments?
I may attempt to finish this at another time, but the narration was exhausting. the woman's voice was just all wrong for this story line. I don't like babies being hurt, not my style. The story line of having someone else kill random people to save your baby just did not interest me. I love a thriller but this one I just couldn't get into. If I come back to it and am able to finish it in the future I'll update my review.

Worst narration and not David Jackson's best work
This is by far the worst audiobook I have listened to. I love David Jackson's most recent work, but this was garbage that would have received an "F" in a ninth grade creative writing course in a last chance high school.
The narration was split between two actors with the male being okay and the female sounding like she was reading it for the first time. It was so monotone with no creativity used...
So disappointing...
