Summary

When Ellen writes her annual round robin to send out with her Christmas cards, she realises it's all about the rest of her family. Fed up and exhausted by yet another year of single-handedly trying to make it a perfect Christmas, Ellen takes a pile of books, her cosiest clothes and the Ocado order and escapes to a beach hut on the North Devon coast. This year, Christmas is going to be all about her and nobody else.

Meanwhile, the other inhabitants in the beach huts are trying to escape Christmas, too. But somehow, the spirit of Christmas wheedles its way back into their hearts, and Ellen is at the heart of the activity. By Christmas day there are fairy lights strung up round the beach hut and a turkey roasting on the barbecue.

So when Ellen's family track her down, just how will they convince her she means the world to them - every day of the year?

Always love The Beach Hut series but this one hit home

I like Veronica Henry’s books. At first glance read or listen they seem light easy and very jolly. But Veronica really gets to the very bottom of what are complex and important life issues in a way that is relatable. This particular story really resonated with me as I’ve also been at the very point of picking up my car keys and leaving for me time: looking back I wish I had - perhaps my issues may have been resolved quicker.
Great read thought provoking

Beach huts are tops!

I love the idea of a beach hut, almost impossible to buy around here, a long waiting list but Veronica Henry’s beach hut stories Transport meto a dream world and bringing a puppy into this one is the icing on the cake.

Vintage Veronica Henry

Loved this book and the narrator, a really lovely Christmas listen. Lighthearted but trips along like a loveable reindeer.. very uplifting and comforting. It’s the audible equivalent of a hit chocolate with marshmallows!

Fabulous feel good Christmas story

What a marvellous find. My first Veronica Henry book will certainly not be my last. Brilliantly narrated by Julia Franklin too.
I’m full of admiration for Veronica as she brings every character to life and is an accomplished storyteller who crafts an extremely satisfying read. I can see this novel being made into a film. I’m sure many listeners will identify with familiar themes of Christmas pressure and family misunderstandings and coming to terms with conflict and loss. The way the strands of the plot are expertly and satisfyingly draw together made me want to cry with joy and applaud at the same time. Absolute must for Christmas. Now I’m going to listen to all her other books.
