I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. Matheus Taylor didn't ask to be murdered. To be fair, the percentage of people actually asking to be murdered is probably small enough to be safely ignored, but he felt it was worth stating regardless. His life might have been ordinary, but it was his life and he wasn't done with it yet. Quin didn't care. A 1,700-year-old Roman, Quintus Livius Saturnius had a different view of morality than most people. Killing Matheus and hijacking his undead existence seemed perfectly acceptable to him.

Summary
Detective Jenna Skye bombs her first week on the St. Louis County Police Department's Vice Squad when she's bitten by a vampire in a supernatural brothel. Her day only gets worse from there. She wakes up in the morgue and discovers that her partner is dead. Before the sun rises, she realizes she is too.
With her partner's killer still on the loose, Jenna vows to continue their investigation until justice is served, but a werewolf squatter, an unexpected visit from her estranged sister, and a nosy FBI agent stand in her way. Not to mention her fresh aversion to sunlight and a thirst for something a little stiffer than revenge.

Light hearted and spoofy this was an entertaining and enjoyable story. Obviously part of a series of supernatural / police / thrillers I’ve started at the opening book so I can see how it all pans out.

Great story.
This book was a great urban fantasy. One minute you are on a stake out with your partner and the next moment your partner is dead and you wake up in the morgue a vampire. Jenna Skye find out a young werewolf came to her rescue and ate her sire. Mandy, the were wolf wants to find the young girls that are being kept as sex slaves. So they work together to find them. But also there is the FBI agent who is really part of the vampire enforcement who keeps stepping in and knows she is a vampire to inform her of the rules she is breaking. He wants to know who her sire is etc. She keeps telling him she does not know these things. She has been a vampire on a few days. I enjoyed the story. It was well written. I wish it had been longer but that is ok. I do look forward to the next book. Hollie jackson did a great job narrating. I received this book as gift in exchange for an honest review.

Refreshingly Different
This author is new to me but I liked the sound of the "blurb" so I thought I would give this book a chance. I am so very glad I did I found it to be refreshingly different. I loved the character of Jenna Skye and the way she has to learn to 'live' again after waking up on a mortuary slab. Jenna has quite a few hang ups, for starters, she feels she is responsible for the death of her partner. Her mother has been dead for years but it's still her voice on the house answerphone message she can't bring herself to change it.
The story is really well written and the characters are very well drawn, I particularly liked Mandy a werewolf who Jenna finds squatting in her home when she returns to it from the morgue, in fact it's Mandy who tells her that she's dead! The banter and developing friendship between these two is really good.
Throw into the mix her twin sister who she is not close to but who has returned home to sort out the house and arrange Jenna's funeral, her highschool crush and an FBI agent who is not what he seems at first. Couple that with the hunt for some missing girls who have been kidnapped by rogue vampires all whilst trying to find out how to 'live' in this new world she now inhabits and you have the basis of a great story.
I loved this author's writing style and the storyline had me gripped, I now really want to listen to the rest of the series of which this is book one.. The narration by Hollie Jackson was so well done she brought every character to life and gave them real depth. I can not recommend this book highly enough.
