On an isolated farm in southern Ireland, a decades-old grave houses the dismembered bones of 11 women. Detective Superintendent Katie Maguire of the Irish Gardai is used to bloodshed, but these white bones speak of unimaginable butchery. Not far away, a young American tourist is at the mercy of a sadistic killer. His tools are a boning knife, twine, and a doll fashioned from rags, nails, and fish-hooks. She should have learnt to keep her big mouth shut after the scandal that sent her packing - resentful teenager in tow - from the London Met to the lonely Kent coastline. Murder is different here, among the fens and stark beaches. She was the one who found the killers. The man drowned in the slurry pit had been herded there like an animal. He was North African, like many of the fruit pickers that work the fields. The more Cupidi discovers, the more she wants to ask - but these people are suspicious of questions.

The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of James Oswald's gripping new Inspector McLean crime thriller Natural Causes, read by the actor Ian Hanmore. A young girl's mutilated body is discovered in a sealed room. Her remains are carefully arranged, in what seems to have been a cruel and macabre ritual, which appears to have taken place over 60 years ago.For newly appointed Edinburgh Detective Inspector Tony McLean this baffling cold case ought to be a low priority - but he is haunted by the young victim and her grisly death.

Rough ride
I used to read Graham Masterton as a teenager in the 90s and came across this title in a recent sale. Couldn't leave it alone even at work! I'm a bit off police series at the moment but the characters are very sympathetic and likeable and I'll certainly be looking out for the other Katie McGuire stories. I hope they're read by the same narrator as she has the perfect soft Irish accent for the main character and did a good range of voices for the rest. If you're squeamish you may want to skip certain parts, skipping to the end of the chapter in the unpleasant bits won't affect the rest of the story and the next chapter will continue elsewhere in the story so you won't be shocked by what you skip to.

Mystery and suspense that’s gripping & intriguing.
Any additional comments?
Having loved all the other Katie Maguire books I was really looking forward to listening to this one and was not disappointed. I see some people have passed comments on the narration. At first I admit I too wasn’t sure about Noreen Leighton’s narration, so I went back and listened to some of the previous Katie Maguire books. Having done that, I concluded the narration was pretty good. I can’t comment on the quality of the Irish accents but the narration was more than acceptable for me. You don’t need to have listened to any of the previous Katie Maguire books as any links to previous books are covered. Once again, it’s a gripping thriller though certainly not for the faint hearted, as the crimes are rather graphic. Katie is gutsy Irish Detective Superintendent, with a personal life which is always quite interesting and sometimes as graphic as the murders that she investigates. If you are easily offended then this is probably not for you, but if you have listened to any of the other Katie books you will no what to expect, it doesn’t disappoint, another great story that will certainly keep you wondering what will happen next. Loved it.

Hard to cope with perhaps because I'm Irish
The other two books by this author were so enjoyable for me. The books are written about Irish officers and people of county Cork in Southern Ireland, and the narrator was Irish who was a good actress but also great with accents.
The narrator of blood sisters however is English and her Irish accent was ok at times, but so bad at times that some of the characters sounded like they had mental impairment or speech impediments. It was so distracting from the story, and as an Irish listener, very irritating.
I just wish Caroline Lennon could have narrated this book also.
Despite this, great plot and suspense through, I love Graham Mastersons books.

BLOOD SISTERS - Bloody Marvellous...
Would you listen to Blood Sisters again? Why?
Yes - it grabbed me from the very first chapter
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Sisters?
The hidden cupboard...
Which character – as performed by Noreen Leighton – was your favourite?
Katie - very believable
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
My fifth Katie McGuire listen... And my favourite; superbly narrated - I don't understand how anyone could criticise Noreen Leighton!
Gritty, grissly - the genius invention of Mr Masterton...
My only disappointment - it came to an end.
Superb - but not for the faint hearted!

Good story pity about the reader
As the book is set in Ireland with a lot of Irish names and place names it might have been an idea to get an Irish reader or some one to advise on prounciations. The attempts at Irish accents was dire. Perhaps this may make no difference to non Irish listeners. Story is good albeit a little Gorey in places

Holy Horrot
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a continuing story which holds ones attention throughout. Great story line.
What other book might you compare Blood Sisters to, and why?
All the previous Katie McGuire books before this one. One should read them in order to understand the background
Which character – as performed by Noreen Leighton – was your favourite?
Obviously the main Character of Katie. The reading by Noreen was superb. She gave each character an individual 'life' and one knew which one through the story. Wonderful reading.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would have loved to but 16 hours would be too long at one sitting!

They will pay for their sins
Katie Maguire is running into more interference from her office and her sexual ambivalence seems to take a new turn and adds to her problems, meanwhile nuns are being murder in the most horrendous ways, or should I say in the most religious ways.
The investigation takes her into the recent religious past of her country and the bodies begin to accumulate, spatially those of children under the care of the church.
A good story that resolves some of the previous history and opens some new questions, some terribly gruesome murders are committed to nuns and some terrible crimes are remembered.
Overall a good read that could do with a toning down on the torture fest.

Superb book.
Excellent story, well written and suspense by the bucket full. Very difficult to switch off I just had to know what happened next! But didn't see the final three chapters coming, a master of suspense. This is the third Graham Masterton book I have read and can't wait for the next one.
Sadly if any of the other books are narrated by Noreen Leighton I will buy the book to read myself as I found her narration off putting with a sharp intake off breath at the beginning of every sentence.
