ATC is a fantastic author

love these stories and am a huge fan of the authors work which I've first found on horror podcasts.

Pleasantly surprised

Some stories weren't particularly good and there was no way of a review to get the grip on where the story was going or where was the humanity? more curio than si-fi. The narration kept me listening.

Needs Chapter Titles

This was quite a varied collection, with a mixture of sci-fi and horror. Most of them were good, and the few that weren’t so interesting were still not boring. The good narrators helped.

I would recommend listening to the end of the stories, as a few that at first seemed pointless became good retrospectively due to their endings.

One note is that the chapters are not titled, so if anyone at audible reads this it would be good to have the story names added. However, the stories are in the same order as they are listed in the description, with the first being chapter 2 (chapter 1 is an introduction from the author).

Also odd is that the stories ‘The Shallow End Of The Pool’ and ‘Of a Sweet Slow Dance in the Wake of Temporary Dogs’ each span two chapters. They are the longest stories here, but I’ve seen longer chapters elsewhere and see no reason for the split, especially as it results in chapter 24 being only 3 minutes long.

Most Consistent Story Collection!

There will always duds in a collection of stories and this is no different, but the general level of quality was higher than perhaps any I’ve read before.
I particularly liked the introductions to each story. Some people have found them annoying and self important, but as a writer myself, I found them insightful and they elevated my enjoyment of the stories.

brilliant and powerful

what a brilliant read, descriptions leading to the reader actually being involved in the stories.

An interesting mix

Stumbled across this author in the regular “down the rabbit hole” journey I find myself doing on Audible. A good mix of stories - some horror, some SF - some have a healthy dose of dark humour, many are just dark. The narrators were excellent but as with any short story collection , some plots you like and others you don’t. I have since sought out his more SF the Andrea Cort series.

excellent narration, poor plots

Confusing and rambling . The narration is excellent. The narrators made it just about bearable considering the awful material they were working. with.
