Summary

Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins. And as an adult, Daniel is about to discover there are more of them out there.

Un necessary use of subject matter

There is a reason why a gave it 1 star, let me explain.
The story actually is really good and it would have been a 5 star had it not been for the totally unnecessary rape scene in this book. If rape isn't bad enough to use in entertainment it went one step farther and was even worse (is there such a thing) It wasn't helpful to the story at all in my opinion and should be either re written or taken out altogether.

Great listen

I discovered Bentley little’s books on audible, so glad I did!! This is the second book I’ve listened to, the first being The Haunted. It will most certainly not be the last. I really enjoy the ease of the stories, not too complex but still a very enjoyable listen. I’m a horror fan and although they’re no Stephen king they are none the less worth a go :-) Narrator was very easy to listen to, thoroughly enjoyed

Another Scary Bentley Little story

Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins when his younger brother was killed as the floor collapsed. And as an adult, Daniel discovers Frank is out there again and he wants revenge for his brother’s death. Finding Frank becomes an obsession, BUT Frank is also after him and things begin to happen to people around him who get involved in Frank’s search. Who will find who first and just what will Daniel find when they finally meet? Another brilliant scary Bentley Little book.

A wicked one

Stephen King wasn't kidding when he called Bentley Little the Poet Laureate of horror. This novel is terrifying, moving, and unrelenting. Little's writing feels like a special treat for those of us who rarely find horror novels which are as inspiring as classic King novels. This work is amazing and the menace of an antagonist Little has crafted is a wicked one.

Don’t bother.

Save yourself, avoid. Even the narrator seems to have a total lack of interest in this banal ‘story’. Absolute utter nonsense.

A weirdly entertaining journey into strange and bizarre horror

I loved the idea, very odd but fascinating idea. There's a lot of jumping around in time and between character viewpoints, but it's an entertaining listen. The narrator is good, he's got great expression in his voice and a good tone / timbre to his voice (I have tinnitus so this is imperative for me).

The narrator's accent is good, not annoying or 'whiney', like some American narration can be to my be ears.

The story is long, detailed, gorey in places and perfect for me.

Rubbish.

The first part was ok and I was fairly invested in the family, but then came the second part that was basically a collection of nasty, sick horror sound bites. I soon got to the point where I realised I needed to delete it from my library, and don't regret doing so. I won't be partaking of any of this author's other books in the future.
Listen with caution, random *warning*...

Rapes, child molestation, child murder and numerous animal and human torture scenes and I'd only just started the second part, just plain nasty.

Bentley Little Should Not Write Sex Scenes

Ever.

They are, by far, the most horrifying to things about his books. I hope the narrators get paid extra every time they have to read one.

a little slow to get started but eventually became very interesting and exciting.

absolutely not a waste of time, and the storyteller was really good, great voicing and in a nice speed.
