Summary

Anatomy of the Psyche is an empirical study by a distinguished Jungian analyst and author presenting case material and related examples from alchemy that throws new light on basic patterns of growing consciousness. Edward F. Edinger draws upon his long experience as a practicing psychotherapist and on his extensive knowledge of religion and myth to peel away the accidental and the insignificant to clarify the objective aspects of the psychotherapeutic process.

"This is a significant amplification and extension of Jung's work." (Psychological Perspectives)

Exactly the pulp I was thirsting for!

It is a perfect meeting of contexts. psychology, theology, philosophy, mythology, and natural sciences. The book provides enough examples of each process (either by metaphor or direct citation) to allow one to soak in the essence without it becoming redundant or tedious. I have found this book inspiring both in the context of being an anchor for psychological imagery and development, and as a rich store house of images for literary themes as well.

Great content, unappealing narration

I just don’t get it- there are hundreds of thousands of narrators. Why is it so difficult to choose one with a neutral accent and intonation?

This narrator is better suited for movie trailer narration but also needs to work on his Weezie Jefferson accent for words like ‘thawt’ instead of thought.

It just makes assimilating this excellent content that much more difficult, better to read.

Enjoyable for me.

I have listened to this twice back to back I got a lot out of it as I am deeply interested in this topic, will have to listen to it more. If into Jung and alchemy then it is worth a listen, narration is good as well, normally for books like this it doesn't quite work being read by someone besides the author, but he did good with it.
