The Byzantine Empire has often been overlooked. Yet, this vast empire lasted for hundreds of years, and has had a major impact on world religions and politics, even into the past century. The Byzantine Empire was heavily influenced by the Romans, and Christian culture. Several centuries A.D., it was marked by conquests, emperors, rules, orthodoxy, and the giant capital of Constantinople (which is now Istanbul).
