Aab-e-Gum is one of the most fascinting books in Urdu on human behaviors, humor and satire with a tinge of sadness. The story follows Basharat and his adventures in Pakistan. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi born Ahmad Shah Awan on 20 Nov 1916 - died 10 July 2006 was an Urdu and English language Pakistani poet, journalist, literary critic, dramatist and short story author. He wrote 50 books on topics such poetry, fiction, criticism, journalism and art and was a major figure in contemporary Urdu literature. His poetry was distinguised by his humanism, and his Urdu afsana (novel) work is considered by some second only to Prem Chand in its depiction of rural cultre. He was also editor and publisher of the literary magazine Funoon for almost half century.

About the author: Krishan Chander (1914-1977) was an Urdu/Hindi writer of short stories and novels. He was a prolific writer, penning over 20 novels, 30 collections of short stories and scores of radio plays in Urdu and later, after partition of the country, took to writing mainly in Hindi. He also wrote screen-plays for Bollywood movies to supplement his meagre income as an author of satirical stories. Krishan Chander's novels have been translated into over 16 Indian languages and some foreign languages, including English.

Shafiq-ur-Rahman (November 9, 1920-March 19, 2000) was a Pakistani humorist and a short story writer in Urdu. He was a medical doctor by profession and served in the Pakistan army. He received Hilal-e-Imtiaz for his military and civilian services. Rahman's work added a new dimension to humour in Urdu literature. His unforgettable characters include Razia, Shaitaan, Hukoomat Aapa, Maqsood Ghora, Buddy, Judge Sahab, Nannha, and many others.

Rajinder Singh Bedi (1 September 1915-1984) was an Indian Urdu writer of the progressive writers' movement and a playwright, who later worked in Hindi cinema as a film director, screenwriter and dialogue writer. Bedi is considered one of the leading 20th century progressive writers of Urdu fiction, and one of the most prominent Urdu fiction writers. He is most known for "disturbing" Partition of India tales. This collection includes the following: "Garam Coat"; "Lajwanti"; and "Sirf Ek Cigarette."

The world's first and longest magical fantasy HOSHRUBA (1883-1893) was compiled in the Urdu language in Lucknow by two of its greatest story-tellers, Syed Muhammad Husain Jah and Ahmed Husain Qamar, wrote a fantasy in the Urdu language whose equal had not been heard before, and which has never been rivaled since. It was called Tilism-e Hoshruba. The writers claimed that the tale had been passed down to them from storytellers going back centuries: It was a part of the beloved oral epic, The Adventures of Amir Hamza which had come to the Indian subcontinent via Persia.

It is noted in the anthology of Ismat stories that Ismat Chughtai wrote two versions of the same story, Kallu. After writing the first version, she presented it to a peer for a review. Both she and her peer forgot about this exchange. Perhaps she was preoccupied with the characters and plot, as she proceeded to write the Kallu narrative yet again.
