The kind that makes you question if winter ever happened. but don't get too comfortable. A cold front is barreling through this afternoon. and it's bringing winter's curtain call. In the next 24 hours. South Central Kansas? You're the winner today. Wichita climbs to 76 degrees under brilliant sunshine. That's flip-flop weather. That's windows-down weather. Northeast Kansas hits 70 with a slight chance of an early sprinkle. Western Kansas reaches 71 under clear skies. Here's where it gets wild. Tonight, that front slams the door. Hard. Temperatures crater 40 degrees in some spots. Northeast Kansas drops to 30. South Central falls to 39. Western Kansas hits 30. Your Saturday evening jacket won't cut it by midnight. Sunday turns messy. Cold air rushes in from the northeast while moisture rides up and over it. Northeast Kansas sees snow by midday, mixing to rain by afternoon. Highs only reach 40. Northeast Kansas reaches 63. All under brilliant sunshine. The kind of day where your car feels like a sauna by lunchtime. Tonight stays quiet. Clear skies hold. Lows drop to 36 out west, 42 in the northeast. Still mild for late February. Friday cranks it up even more. We're talking low to mid 70s across most of the state. That's 15 degrees above normal. Light winds. Wall-to-wall sunshine. Perfect weather for a long lunch outside or an early evening walk. But here's where the plot thickens. Enjoy the warmth while you've got it. A strong cold front barrels in late Saturday. Sunday? Temperatures crash 30 to 40 degrees from Friday's highs. We're talking mid 30s to low 40s. Rain, sleet, maybe even some snow mixing in. We're about to ride a 20 to 30 degrees spike above normal by Friday. Out west, you're waking up to 33 degrees. Feels like 31 around 5 A.M. By 4 P.M., you hit 70 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Winds flip from north to east-northeast around 8 A.M. A brief shower could brush through around 6 P.M., but only a 20 percent shot. Push south-central and you're starting at 43 degrees. Your low hits 43 around 5 A.M., then you climb to 67 by 4 P.M. Winds shift from east-southeast to south-southeast around 2 P.M. Tonight brings partly cloudy skies and a low around 40. Up in the northeast, you're at 38 degrees this morning. Your low dips to 35 around 7 A.M. By 3 P.M., you reach 60 degrees with partly sunny skies. Winds shift from east to southeast around noon. Here's where it gets interesting. Rain moves in from 7 P.M. to midnight, peaking at about 40 percent chance around 9 P.M. Nothing heavy, but keep the umbrella handy. Tonight across the state, lows settle into the 30s. Tomorrow brings more sun with highs in the low to mid 60s. Thursday and Friday stay sunny with highs climbing into the 70s. Friday looks especially toasty. But a cold front arrives Saturday. That drops temperatures back to reality. Sunday into Monday brings a chance of rain, possibly mixing with snow.
