  • Myers Park to Super Bowl: Drake Maye’s coach on QB journey | Duke and everyone else in hoops? | Mensah settles | OG Sports Phone | 01.27
    Jan 27 2026

After some winter weather banter to get things rolling, Ovies & Giglio welcome Louisville Courier-Journal’s C.L. Brown for a deep dive into ACC basketball. What was billed as a marquee regular-season showdown between Duke and Louisville quickly turned into a blowout, raising the big question facing the league right now: Is it Duke…and then everyone else in the ACC?

From there, the show shifts to football with Clayton High School head coach Scott Chadwick, who reflects on his time at Myers Park — right when Drake Maye was beginning to turn heads at quarterback. Chadwick shares insight into Maye’s early development, how he ultimately landed at North Carolina, and the unforgettable moment when Sam Darnold broke down Maye’s HUDL tape.

In college football news, Darian Mensah and Duke officially settle their NIL contract dispute. Triangle-area attorney David McKenzie joins the show to explain what the settlement actually accomplished—and what it means for the future of NIL agreements.

Plus, your OG Sports Phone calls and plenty more along the way.

  • Maye & Darnold make Charlotte center of Super Bowl universe | UNC, Duke, & State hoops | 'Slobbering Wolf' debate | 01.26
    Jan 26 2026

The latest Ovies & Giglio kicks off with Super Bowl storylines running straight through Charlotte, thanks to the matchup between New England and Seattle. The game heads back to San Francisco — the site of the Panthers’ last Super Bowl appearance — and there’s a full-circle moment tied to it. Drake Maye, a Charlotte kid who grew up rooting for Cam Newton, was there for that Panthers loss… and now he’s playing on the sport’s biggest stage himself. There’s also the remarkable reclamation of Sam Darnold, who has gone from being benched by the Carolina Panthers to finding his way back into relevance. And looming over it all? An increasingly awkward couple of weeks ahead for Bill Belichick.

Then it’s over to ACC hoops, where North Carolina stole the spotlight Saturday with a comeback win at Virginia. After the west coast flop had many writing off the Heels, a road win like that could be an inflection point for Hubert Davis and the season’s direction. NC State also notched another road victory—and while that’s worth noting, the internet seems far more focused on… logos. Why is everyone suddenly obsessed, and what does it even mean?

  • Did UNC get their groove back? | Smith Center debate boiling | Mensah saga continues | Moments in Triangle Snow History | 01.22
    Jan 22 2026

It’s another OG Live, brought to you by The Butcher’s Market, and the guys are joined by ESPN’s Wes Durham to break down North Carolina’s emphatic win over Notre Dame. Was it the wake-up call the Tar Heels needed — or simply taking advantage of a matchup that won’t be there when UNC heads to Virginia?

From there, the conversation shifts to NC State’s ongoing consistency issues and whether anyone in the ACC can realistically challenge Duke as conference play unfolds. Speaking of the Blue Devils, the Darian Mensah saga continues. While the case could help set NIL precedent, it also raises a bigger question: do situations like this — along with NBA draft picks returning to college — further erode what draws fans to college sports in the first place?

Plus, another edition of Great Moments in Triangle Snow History, your OG Sports Phone calls, and plenty more.

  • Will Wade learns "Law of the Wolf" | ACC bracketology | Duke sues Mensah | Canes need Freddie | Women's hoops check-in | 01.21
    Jan 21 2026

After a brief detour into mushroom coffee, the guys dive into NC State’s win at Clemson and Will Wade getting a crash course in the “Law of the Wolf." Then Patrick Stevens (Washington Post, OG Media’s chief bracketologist) joins the show to unveil his first NCAA Tournament bracket projection of the season, setting the table for how ACC teams are stacking up early.

It’s time for a hockey break with Canes play-by-play voice Mike Maniscalco, including why the Olympics might be exactly what Freddie Andersen needs as the Hurricanes manage their goalie situation. Later, Mitch Northam checks in on women’s hoops, including where the ongoing Smith Center debate lands for UNC’s women’s program. Plus, Duke sues Darian Mensah, and the episode wraps with a very special memorabilia delivery from a listener.

  • Who Will Be the Next Indiana? Answer Might Be UNC or NC State | Can the Heels Fix Their Hoops Season? | 01.20
    Jan 20 2026

The guys open the show reacting to Indiana’s improbable 16–0 national championship season, capped by the Hoosiers knocking off Miami in the College Football Playoff. There’s a breakdown of the game itself, but the bigger conversation centers on how Curt Cignetti flipped one of the worst major-conference programs in college football history in just two seasons — and what that means for the sport moving forward.

That leads to the inevitable question: who’s the next Indiana? And after digging into the realities of modern college football, the answer may only come from the Triangle.

Switching to college basketball, The Athletic’s Brendan Marks joins the show to revisit a debate from December: who actually has the better roster, UNC or Duke? But maybe that’s the wrong framing. Maybe this season is really about coaching. What’s behind UNC’s recent struggles, can they be fixed, and how much does the ongoing conversation about the future of the Smith Center reflect a broader uncertainty about the future of Tar Heel basketball itself?

  • Danger zone for UNC, NC State | The Patriots redefine Bracket Luck | Canes hitting stride
    Jan 19 2026
California was unkind to UNC basketball. After losing both legs of the Golden State trip, the Tar Heels and Hubert Davis face some serious questions. Meanwhile, NC State did what it previously hadn't done and lost a game it shouldn't. Eighteen games into the season, Will Wade's team is searching for an identity. Hats off to the New England Patriots and their fans. Their long nightmare is finally over. Seriously, how lucky can one franchise be? The Carolina Hurricanes have a matinee with the Buffalo Sabres. Don't look now but the Canes, with all of their parts, look like a War Machine. Hayes Permar joins Joe Giglio for a special live episode, brought to you by Bloomin Blinds. • OG Mailbag: Hubert Davis reaching 'Forever Grateful' status? | Smith Center nostalgia | Pryor out
    Jan 16 2026

On this episode of OG Mailbag, Ovies & Giglio dig into why Hubert Davis may have reached the dreaded “forever grateful” status with some UNC fans — and why that framing misses a bigger point. The ACC is simply better this season, and the west coast swing is taking a toll on a lot of teams. That doesn’t mean UNC doesn’t have defensive issues, but neither do NC State or Duke. The real question: can any of them actually fix it?

Staying in Chapel Hill, there’s also been a noticeable uptick in Smith Center nostalgia — what’s driving it, and what does it say about the current moment for UNC basketball?

Plus, it wouldn’t be OG Mailbag without strong opinions on Panthers QB Bryce Young, along with a handful of off-the-wall questions covering cruise ships, wide shoes, and John Pryor.
