    May 25 2026

Motivation is like fireworks. It’s bright, exciting, flashy, pretty, powerful, adrenaline rush. But it only last a few seconds and then it is gone and its dark again. Where self-discipline is like an old wood stove. Not flashy, or exciting, takes longer to get started, but once its started it keeps going with little effort and keeps the house warm all winter. Self-discipline always trumps motivation. Motivation is emotional. Self-discipline is a guideline of what you do 90% of the time. • #150 Three Little Pigs
    May 18 2026

If you had to move in with one of the Three little pigs who would it be? The pig in the straw house, wooden house, or the pig in the brick house. I know what one I would choose. But so many of us are settling for the straw house. The house that blows down at that slightest breeze only to rebuild and start again. What a ground hog day kind of life. Build, collapse, rebuild, repeat over and over again. I think that is also the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result. Don’t be a straw house piggy. Let’s build a strong foundation one brick at a time.

Have you ever thought about how fairy tales from our childhood had lessons in them. They were designed to teach us values, morales. They had consequences. The three little pigs is about resilience, hard work, not being lazy, battling life’s problems. So does this particular fairy tale have a lesson for us. A lesson on building sustainable habits that promoteweight loss, mobility, and a healthy lifestyle. Let’s review the Three little pigs and see how this plays into our lifestyle change.

There’s no way to get through this life with no tears. The object here is to have so many cheers when making a lifestyle change that the tears are few and far between. • #146 Stress Eating Over 50
    Apr 20 2026

Have you ever found yourself grabbing for something to eat?Sometimes it doesn’t even matter what it is, or you might not even be aware of it until you’re in the middle of a box of cookies or you realize you’re eating with your hands out of a Tupperware bowl in front of the fridge. What’s happening? Step back and think about it. Are you stressed? Stress has a funny way of messing with you. Subconsciously our brain tells us that food will ease the stress. But does it really? Does a ½ gallon ice-cream make the deadline less stressful? What about that unruly teenager or the looming bills in front of you? Let me tell if it worked I’d have had a stressless life. I venture to guess food hasn’t gotten rid of your stress either.

Did you think that when you raised the kids, had a successful career, and moved into retirement that life would be so much easier? That all the stress of managing a household and juggling a career would finally be over? Wrong. Moving into your 50 plus years brings on a whole new set of stressors. Retirement, financial, aging parents, illnesses, menopause to name a few. A whole new set of reason to see if food will work better this round. If you couldn’t eat stress away in your younger years what makes you think it will work now? In fact, it might even be worse as our hormones are changing, maybe a little more sedentary, metabolism or moving is just more difficult. That ½ gallon of stress-cream might stick around a little longer now. How does that affect your stress level? It certainly doesn’t reduce stress; in fact, it magnifies it. this week Haute’ mama talks about Stress eating. Click the linkbelow to listen to the podcast.
