What is the Bible really about?
Control, Command, or Connection?
In this “choose your own adventure” video, I explore the three major ways people approach the Bible from a big-picture, meta perspective:
Control: Was the Bible written by men to control others using God’s name for credibility and power?
Command: Is it primarily a rulebook from God telling us how to live in order to keep Him happy?
Connection: Or is it God revealing His design for us so we can experience real happiness, purpose, relationship, and flourishing?
I share my personal story — including the 20 years I viewed the Bible as a heavy rulebook — the powerful Garden of Eden example of human agency and responsibility, the simple IKEA furniture analogy, and why I ultimately land on the Connection view as the most compelling.
This is Part 1 of a thoughtful 2-part series.
In Part 2, we examine why the Bible has endured for thousands of years: Is it the most bizarre cultural artifact in history… or absolute genius?
Whether you’re a skeptic, a curious seeker, or someone who grew up with the Bible but want a fresh perspective, this video is designed to help you think more clearly without demanding you agree with any particular conclusion.
