Summary
Life was a whole lot easier when the dead stayed dead.
I thought I was human. Apparently, I was wrong.
I didn't even know there were non-humans. Others, they're called. Fairies, vampires, even the bogeyman - they're all real. At least, that's what the werewolf told me when I saved her from the cops.
Did I mention that I saved a werewolf? And those weren't just cops trying to kill her. They're a deadly cult with the sole purpose of capturing and torturing Others...especially me. Narrator takes a bit of getting used to
I had already read the story and thoroughly enjoyed it so was happy to find this in the Plus catalogue. The only problem that I had really was the fact that the narrator seems to have attended the William Shatner school of acting. Still didn't stop me finding this version good enough to listen to all the way through. Give it a go and see what you think as the story is well worth the effort even though it gets a little cheesy in places.

fun and engaging urban fantasy romp
the story was awesome. keeps building to what feels like the end, but the take continues. good characters, nicely paced.
narater is good with voices, but outside of that, the narration is... odd. a bit.. William Shatner. every. word. is. REALLY. emphasised! all. the way. though. the. book.
Usually that would be enough to make me return the book, but to his credit, the narrator did put enough effort into making each character voice just different enough that you knew who was talking almost all the time. that along with the great storytelling let me keep listening and get used to the overly dramatic narration.
good book for anyone who likes urban fantasy which is slightly less dark and gritty, and a bit more... fun. il be listening to the rest, I expect.

I'm hooked.
Okay, the book has reeled me in good and proper. I'm five minutes from the end of this book and have put book 2 into my library already. Can't wait to start it. Nice narration. Excellent story. Well written.

Eh. There's better out there.
I really, really wanted to like this.
Alas, it was clunky, painfully predictable and the author feels like a beginner, all unskilled with twists and holding back information.
It wasn't that it was poorly written, it was just artless, a little like an idea conceived by a teen and carried through to adulthood and then written without the necessary revisions to stop it being very slightly cringy. Sad, considering I love urban fantasy and werewolves in particular.
It was predictable to the point where you question if the protagonist has an ounce of critical thinking in him, because really now, you didn't see that coming?
Also all the stuff about his adopted family felt so needlessly and juveniley dramatic. In an 'unable to suspend my disbelief this is so unbelievable' way. Less is more.
The narrator wasn't bad, but took a bit of getting used to.
