About this listen

Gillie Trewlove knows what a stranger’s kindness can mean, having been abandoned on a doorstep as a baby and raised by the woman who found her there. So, when suddenly faced with a soul in need at her door—or the alleyway by her tavern—Gillie doesn’t hesitate. But he’s no infant. He’s a grievously injured, distractingly handsome gentleman who doesn’t belong in Whitechapel, much less recuperating in Gillie’s bed . . .

Being left at the altar is humiliating; being rescued from thugs by a woman—albeit a brave and beautiful one—is the pièce de résistance to the Duke of Thornley’s extraordinarily bad day. After nursing him back from the brink, Gillie agrees to help him comb London’s darker corners for his wayward bride. But every moment together is edged with desire and has Thorne rethinking his choice of wife. Yet Gillie knows the aristocracy would never accept a duchess born in sin. Thorne, however, is determined to prove to her that no obstacle is insurmountable when a duke loves a woman.

Again what a lovely story. In it the duke is reading to gilly to keep her awake and while he is doing it the narrator describes how he is doing so. The description is just as the narrator reads to us. You must listen to this story to understand my meaning. The reading of this book draws you in as if you are there. I also like a series where all the characters of the 1st book not only appear but are involved. I think Lorraine Heath has the perfect recipe for a series that keeps you wanting more. So on that note I'm off to listen to the next. Can't wait.

Having read the story about her older brother and found it intriguing, despite some crazy concepts. I decided to try this story and was not disappointed. The only thing that always baffles me; is the idea that the English Aristocrats are abound with Dukes.
The style is the same, but the story is entertaining.

Enjoyable

I have listenef to many of Lorraine Heaths books but this has been one of my favourites. The slow build up of love and passion were so well written and narrated it was a pleasure to listen to.

I will start by saying that the story was awesomely written. The Author is flawless in her use of description and skilled at developing her characters. She is, no doubt, a very very good writer.

However, though the theme of her story was interesting, her plot was too slow and rather boring. There was nothing exciting about it. The heroin came across as manly and not particularly attractive. The story picked up only slightly in the last two or three chapters, and the end was rather uninspiring. I did enjoy how the dowager unexpectedly reveals her hidden humanity and love for her son, the Duke at the end.

The performance wasn't bad. However, once again, I didn't like the voice used when expressing the heroin. She came across too masculine... physically, verbally and in her personality.

Brilliantly written, had great potential, but didn't quite deliver it for me.

Impressive Writing!
