Summary

"I see the wood, first. A knitted shawl of green and black tossed across the shoulders of the ancient hills. I take a great gulp of breath, my lungs no longer compressed by cages of contorted bone. I want to drink the cool air like water, scented as it is with earth and starlight.

But as I drift close to the house, I falter. Something is wrong. I will myself on, ignoring the whispers of pain beginning to curl up from my bedridden body.

A ball of dread is growing in my stomach; it is so terribly black and heavy, it slows me down. My hands shake.

The light is gone."

Nothing ever changes in the village of Witchford, until the day a 100-year-old, bad-tempered witch falls and breaks her hip and a 50-year-old cleaner decides her life is over. Both are haunted by ghosts, but can Frieda help Angie find out what her long-dead father is trying to tell her? And can Angie help Frieda fight off the wolf that circles ever closer?

Good listen.

Enjoyed this book. Interesting to listen to and the storyline was good.
A nice light, easy listen .
Only problem was the narrator. Had a hard time differentiating between the characters but still enjoyed it.

It was okay

not read well. It was a bit repetitive with each view point covering the same time period on repeat every other chapter. Started off well, but got a bit tedious as it went on. I also didn’t understand the epilogue, not sure about it’s significance.

Characters interesting, but I think more could have been done.

Pleasantly suprised

Didn’t I think this would be my cup of tea but decided to give it a go and absolutely adored it. The characters were absorbing and thoroughly believable bringing a supernatural story into realistic terms. The characterisations where wonderful and incredibly human and very moving at times. The alternating chapters between each character gave great balance and the narration goes to good effort vocally to hear the differences. Anyone who can’t isn’t listening properly. I could have listened to the this book forever, comfort food for the soul. Would make a great tv series /tv movie.

Wonderful story

This turned out to be a really great story. It was rather slow to begin with but it developed into a fascinating novel. I couldn’t put it down and was disappointed when it came to an end. A feel good novel.

The Woman and the Witch

This is not my usual genre. Light enjoyable listen. Occasionally difficult to distinguish characters by this narrator's voice.

A Captivating Story

A lovely tale of friendship and witchcraft. It took me a little while to settle into the story but once it had pulled me in there was no escape! A wonderful new world, I am so pleased it is part of a trilogy as I want to enter again.

Stick with it

It’s a lovey story. It rambles in places and is a little cut short in other parts. It would definitely make a good TV movie or series with a little tweaking. The characters are well thought through and believable. The whole book feels like a snapshot of what could have been a whole series of books, as Freddie the main character had led a long and adventurous life- only really hinted at briefly. The end seems a little rushed also. But all in all I really enjoy it.
