Summary
Book one of the End Times.
As the forces of Chaos threaten to drown the world in madness, Mannfred von Carstein and Arkhan the Black put aside their difference and plot to resurrect their dark master: Nagash.
The original bad guy of the Warhammer World returns for the End Times, ready to destroy the land of the living and begin a new age of undeath. If you like Warhammer, this is a must-have - nothing that has ever happened within the Old World or without has been more pivotal to the future of the world.
The story:
The End Times are coming. As the forces of Chaos threaten to drown the world in madness, Mannfred von Carstein and Arkhan the Black put aside their difference and plot to resurrect the one being with the power to stand against the servants of the Ruinous Powers and restore order to the world - the Great Necromancer himself. As they set about gathering artefacts to use in their dark ritual, armies converge on Sylvania, intent on stopping them. But Arkhan and Mannfred are determined to complete their task. No matter the cost, Nagash must rise again.
Written by Josh Reynold. Narrated by Andrew James Spooner.

The End Times is here!
As someone who got into WHF after End Times i was fascinated about the End Times books. And the first one is a good one. But it comes with a warning label. The book presumes that you know the lore and who the characters are. It is a well written book and all the characters are well written and for someone who know the lore this was a treat. The narrator was excellent and was able give the different characters their own voice.

Fun and moving
The story is but a part of the Nagash story of the end-time but it has everything to keep you entertained.

Boring
I thought because of Gotrik and Felix novels were good. Having played total war warhammer triology, I thought to give this a try. It’s was just so bland and boring

Incredible story
Ever since my pre teens, I have loved Warhammer, but never read the stories. I loved The Return of Nagash and I can not wait for The Fall of Altdorf to be addad to audible.

A well read tale of an new age beginning
Tells the story well, clear seperation between the many different view points and gives a summary of characters and lore for those unfamiliar with the world of warhammer.
Knowledge of warhammer will help but isn't required.

Such a shame End Times got so much hate
Jist as epic as you would want for the start of End Times. Its got loads of named characters and a good back and forth with Manfred and Arkhan. Sets up the end of the world and plays into the battles in the narrative books

Brilliant
I really enjoyed this from start to finish. So engaging and filled in the gaps for the end times for me.

I feel tricked
This should have been titled something else. There is very little Nagash. Typical bait and switch…going to stick with 40k and give up on fantasy. The narrator was good though.

At least it isn't Age of Sigmar.
I repeat myself, at least it is not Age Of Sigmar. I know let's spend 30 plus years world building and make stormcast eternals because we need space marines for our space marines.

Twilight
This review contains spoilers. So there is a dull drab brunette self insert generic vampire girl that all the male vampires simp for. There is no Nagash. Instead the story is told through the angst ridden character of Edward Van Carstein and his hip family. Twilight had a much better description for it's single battle then this slog of I made more dead guys get up written 500 different ways. Never imagined a book about necromancy would be slower then a girl getting hit on by werewolves and vampires but here we are.

fantasy at its Finest
This series is long overdue in coming to audio. I love the diversity of the cast. the plot twist rich fantasy world building stacked on war from various different cultures. there's so much packed into this book. I'm about to hear it a third time.

LOVED this book. Been wanting a book that focuses on Nagash and his servants for so long. Truly excellent story - highly recommend.

The beggining of the end
I don't like age of sigmar. They really did throw away so much lore, so many characters, all their backstories and twisted many of them so the series could end so they could be replaced by something more generic, less impactful and more like 40k.
The book, however i judge on it's merits, and those were fine enough. Some of the characters needed much less time spent on them so nagash could get more of a spotlight. seriously, for a book about the guys return there really is so little of it. The battle scenes were pretty vivid, the machinations of the vampires and their allies interesting if a bit overwrought and too much time spent on them.
The performance was pretty good, with no gripes besides times when "hunk" or "shank" (couldn't tell which) of meat became "hank" (as in the name.) very odd.

Fairly enjoyable
Fairly enjoyable book about the undead, however Nagash is sadly not present for 99%+ of the book.
Of coarse when he does show up I become satisfied.

good audio, generic Vampire is forgetable
good audio performance. should have focused less on generic vampires, and only on Manfred. And of course more of Nagash. it is end times, introducing characters, that are not mentioned in the army books is stupid. no one cares about Erikan Elysa or Marcos (though I enjoyed Marcos a bit). if they had skipped Elysas sidedish story, there would have been enough space to give Nagash more time in the end. Seriously that is the one anoying part. it's understandable, these vampires were included, and they were fine in there own novelseries before the endtimes, but in Endtimes, we want to see only the moves of the big playes and maybe a short episode of a notable sidekick. these Vampires don't belong to that group sadly.

Solid
The first half of the book i found it was hard to follow. As someone only incredibly vaguely aware of the places and characters of the warhammer fantasy/age of sigmar universe I found myself lost pretty regularly between the abundance of people that started with the letter "A" and all the cities and states...countries?...lets just say "places" about the book. THAT being said. the performance from the narrator was out of this world great. Top notch and kept me hooked the entire time. By the second half of the book, as the plot became more clear, things started to make more sense as to the "why" of all the first half of the book. Regardless. I would recommend this book indeed.

Don’t expect Nagash
A fun read for fans of Vampires in Warhammer: Old World or AOS, just don’t be fooled by the title.
