Summary
Seventh-grade Superheroes!
It's not easy being a 12-year-old superhero, but the five kids of the neighborhood watch are doing the best they can. La Capitána: super-strong flier. Wheels: brilliant inventor. Hothead: catches on fire. Breezy: controls wind. Rascal: super-skateboarding. From their headquarters built into a repurposed Winnebago, they patrol the streets and alleys of their small hometown and dream of being big time heroes like Mustang Sally and the rest of Just Cause. Instead, they're stuck rescuing cats stuck in trees...or they would be if their rivals didn't get there first.
Three identical superpowered triplets, the Culture Club, are the darlings of local media. They never miss a photo opportunity or interview. They always seem to be in the right place at the right time. It just isn't fair.
When La Capitána manages to stop a real supervillain, it changes everything for the neighborhood watch, and sets in motion a chain of events that will mean only one team can come out on top. Will the Culture Club win the day once more, or will the neighborhood watch prevail?

Another take on the just cause universe
While this is technically book ten in the just cause universe, you could easily read and enjoy it as a standalone as it focuses on a new bunch of heroes with only a cameo from a recurring hero near the end. This book shifts focus away from established heroes or villains and instead details the adventures of a group of young wannabe superheroes, who are still young enough to be at a regular school rather than attending the hero academy mentioned in other books.
The overall plot of this book was obviously smaller in scope than many of the previous ones, but throughout the series it is the personalities more than set-pieces that make the books an enjoyable listen and this one is no exception with the neophyte team of heroes dealing with both the challenges of a rival team that seems to always pip them to any action and their lives as powered children in an interesting manner.
The narrator gives a decent performance with a range of distinctive enough tones rather than voices for the case, but still serving to enhance the book.
Overall, another interesting look at the just cause universe.

A good kid superhero story

The Book
This is my second just cause universe novel and its a bit of a departure from the hardened criminals seen in Deep Six. The characters were interesting and good and read like i'd expect kids (albeit superhero ones) would be. The plot was good and kept me interested throughout, its an interesting universe with a lot of potential for very different stories.
The Production
The narration was quite fast but not badly so. She read it well and though she didn't really do voices it was pleasant enough.

Teens don't all just watch tv
I really enjoyed this book. This is a stand alone adventure in the Just Cause super hero series, none of the usual hero's are present, until the very end. I think maybe the author was opening up his writing to a younger audience group because there was no love interest or love scenes and there wasn't as many battles as normal focusing more on school life and a mystery but glad to say it didn't matter to me I loved it just the same. The reason is because the author creates such great characters that you can easily picture and situations you can probably relate too. Okay probably not flying in the sky or taking down super villain bank robbers but the everyday things like bullying, chours, homework, friendship and even coping with a disability, the author shows he is a master of his craft and can weave a tale to entertain no matter the age group. I love the fact that it is a group of twelve year olds instead of the usual more grown up adults because hey cats need saving from trees too.
A group of give twelve year olds have big dreams of being super hero's and joining a Just Cause team but at twelve things like homework and not being old enough to drive tend to get in the way. It also doesn't help when you go to school with the Culture Club three identical superpowered triplets, that beat you to every cat stuck up the free indecent and it really doesn't help when they are the cool fashionable kids. When La Capitána stumbles on a bank robbery in progress things change and she finds herself in the spot light and one of the cool kids that everybody wants to be with but will she forget about her team mates, The neighbourhood watch? Then the bank robber escapes and La Capitana finds herself facing a super villain that could be just about anybody. Can she unmask the villain? And find a way back on to the team she belongs to?
I liked the narrator. The author has gone with a different narrator with this book but as all the characters are new I think it was a good idea as you are not trying to imagine new characters with the same voices. She also does a really good job and I had no problems imagining the characters as teens.
