Critic reviews

"Doubtless there were few red-blooded American boys of the 19th century who did not share Tom Sawyer and his companions' sincere preference to being 'outlaws a year in Sherwood Forest than President of the United States.'" (Michael Patrick Hearn, American literary scholar and specialist in children's literature)

Classic

I have never read a robin hood book before didn't know what to expect. It is a real classic written in the old style but it is merry and enjoyable.

well read, to much time spent on the songs but still you can't beat the Classics. A good start for any young minds who like a good adventure story.

Robin Hood made me cry

A collection of gay and frolicking adventures with Robin Hood and his men. A bit repetitive, a bit dated, but a good time. And then the final chapter punches you right in the feels. I cried, and so will you. Dammit, Robin, I didn't sign up for that.

The narrator is great.

Really good, better than I expected considering its age

This was a great read. It's a kids book but as a middle aged man, I really enjoyed it.

It's over 100 years old but still feels good.

The narrator was perfect.

Highly recommended

OMG, the ending… And what a jolly read.

The narrator Christopher Cazenove did an excellent job at imitating those old-timey accents and tone I associate with the genre, but the sound design sucked. My ears hurt from the fluctuating volume. And for the song parts, I would have appreciated some underlying music. Raw singing, when it’s in those amounts, can get tedious.

The story in itself was very chill. We didn’t get too involved in the life of Robin Hood and his merry fellows, because the story is told far removed, but nonetheless, I enjoyed the pranks he played and their mischievous nature. I didn’t expect the ending to be so beautiful and dark though. A perfect end to a heroic tale. It almost made me cry in public!

Would 100% read again.
