Summary

Earth is under attack. Twenty years after the American-Chinese war devastated our worlds, we finally have a tense peace. But legendary American Admiral Jack Mattis, on his inspection tour of the first joint American-Chinese space station, finds himself in the middle of the unthinkable: an alien invasion. Their ships are powerful, their weapons overwhelming. And in the confusion, our tentative peace with the Chinese is shaken to the core. Taking command of his old battleship, the Midway, Admiral Mattis races the alien fleet to Earth, desperate to prevent the utter destruction of humanity's home. And in Earth's darkest hour, Mattis must unify and lead old adversaries to the fight against a common enemy, one that doesn't care about flags or borders. An enemy driven by malevolent hate and a thirst for blood. An enemy that cares for one thing only: Earth's destruction.

Good story horrible voice reading this book.

The story was good and held my interest but the horrific voice acting out the narration is aweful. At one point the guy is clearly holding his nose while speaking to simulate a long distance communication. i expected better from audible.

Deadpan narrator makes this unlistenable

The narrator of this book was really terrible. His inflection is atrocious, his voices just weird, and it sounded like a substitute high school teacher reading a biology book to a class that cares just as little as the alternate teacher. It made the story completely unlistenable. I couldn't make it through the first chapter, thankfully Audible permitted me a refund for this mistake. Listen to the audio sample before buying. If you think you can enjoy 8 hours of it, then give it a go I suppose. Or just listen to a hundred other Sci-Fi books weren't read by Captain Unisom.

Amateurish writing, many, many mispronunciations.

It's really a shame that the author writes like a thirteen year old. The story has promise, but the execution sucks the enjoyment out of it. The narrator reads the material like a seventh grader reading a report in class. It's a huge disappointment.

The story's great, but there was white noise in the background. Horrible to listen to.

Decent idea, bad narrator

I've actually read this series on my kindle. The narration was terrible, very very robot like and the women's voices he did sucked, I listened to the end just because I'd bought it. Definitely won't listen to another.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL performance narration

I'm a big fan of pretty much everything this guy writes under any name he uses. This book, this series was flat out ruined as an audio book because the performance narration is so incredibly bad. so bad in fact I cannot think about the 2nd book because I know it's the same guy narrating that one too. such a shame.

okay not great

the characters felt very flat the driving goals for somewhat less and what I expect from a Sci-Fi series of this magnitude.War with aliens. sShowing up at the last minute and being able to defeat the enemy with a secret weapon they just happen to have. The main character didn't show any strategic advance or or tactical genius. overall I felt the story fell a little flat
