Summary

Gripping and eye opening, The Girl for the Job is an exciting account of life as a female undercover cop by Danni Brooke.

‘My life was full of danger every day and I couldn’t tell my friends or family what I did for a living. My mum didn’t even know! There were definitely times I was in too deep but somehow I always got away with it.’

For over a decade Danni Brooke was one of the most effective female undercover cops in the UK, one of a very small number of women in the Met’s elite unit. She was so successful at taking down criminals that she was seconded to forces around the country.

Whether she was infiltrating organized crime gangs or disrupting drug supply lines, Danni played the innocent Essex girl, fooling even the most suspicious villains, using her quick wits to keep her out of trouble. She loved the job but the pressures of her work, and trying to balance the long hours with being a mother, were to take a toll on her personal life.

In her honest, warm and gripping memoir, Danni also reveals why she left the police, how she found a new career (and love) on C4’s Hunted – and why the thrill of covert work still pulls her into private investigations.

Amazing story of a life of crime and deception

An amazing audiobook that was expertly narrated. The author leads you through her career in a fun and action packed account.

There are only a few good books out there on the subject of undercover policing and this is one of them.

Really insightful and frank listen!

I've enjoyed a lot of UK undercover/ MI5 audiobooks- and this one is right up there. I've not quite finished it, but it's one of those books you just want to turn on everytime you have 5 minutes.

More a biography than an insight into UC work

I won't say I didn't like the story, as I definitely did, however as my title suggests, to me it was more akin to a biography than a detailed insight into her role as an undercover police officer. I was looking for more UC information and less about the other aspects of her career. However that's probably my fault for not researching the title properly.

There are more focused titles out there but if you've got a few hours and a credit to kill it was decent entertainment.

Wow, fascinating life story!

Loved every minute of this book. Fascinating and gripping stories from her time as an undercover cop in a male dominated environment. To how she managed to juggle being young mum to single parent, her divorce… she’s lived an extraordinary life, would highly recommend!

Real life stories that give you goosebumps

I absolutely loved the way this book was read, each detail was considered and it left me hooked. The many detailed chapters about real life experiences and unbelievable stories make you want to jump in and have a go yourself.

A 10/10 book that you need to hear or read!

A Fantastic Insight!

I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. What I found quite shocking was the type of work Danni did at such a young age, she had a lot of responsibility on her shoulders and was in some dangerous situations. I liked how her personal life was entwined and you got to know her as a person. There are some laugh out loud bits, shocking bits, sad parts and things to think about all wrapped up in a bow! What a thrilling, full life Danni has led and still so young.
My only very small criticism was the narrator, I just felt the story did not suit her voice but that is my personal opinion.
