Summary

1950s Liverpool. In the tight-knit community of the Four Streets, two girls are growing up. One is motherless and hated by the cold woman determined to take her dead mother's place. The other is hiding a dreadful secret which she dare not tell to anyone. The people of Four Streets laugh, grieve and hope together. But what can they do when a betrayal at the heart of their world comes to light?

mediocre

Thinking it was a book about Irish families in the fifties, I was shocked at how the storyline changed.

I have to confess I'll only read the second one because it's on audible and because I want to know how things unfold.

Enjoyable

Interesting tale of struggles within a community. Shocking revelations which unfortunately culminated in a rushed ending and left you feeling somewhat short changed.
However it was well read with emotion and feeling.

Truly lovely book. Terrible stories that are hard to deal with, but written so beautifully that one keeps reading. Such a wonderful community to be a part of

Life in a bygone era bought to life

Would you listen to The Four Streets again? Why?

The description were excellent, you could picture yourself there, the net curtains twitching, as everyone knew what you were up to. The story line was always unexpected and yet plausible, and you begin to live life with the characters. The happy ending was a definite bonus and seemed impossible part way through.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I found myself sitting in the car at the end of a journey, just wanting to hear a bit more.
