About this listen
1950s Liverpool. In the tight-knit community of the Four Streets, two girls are growing up. One is motherless and hated by the cold woman determined to take her dead mother's place. The other is hiding a dreadful secret which she dare not tell to anyone. The people of Four Streets laugh, grieve and hope together. But what can they do when a betrayal at the heart of their world comes to light?

Yes, provided they had previously enjoyed other historical, family drama poverty stricken tales, family stories etc.... Otherwise no. If you don't like that genre, then this one won't change your mind. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Four Streets?
Some of the moments were emotional and shocking.... Some of them a bit far fetched. What does Emma Gregory bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Emma Gregory's accents are great, her Irish and Liverpudlian accents bring a lot to the narrative....If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Love Flourishes in Bleak CircumstancesAny additional comments?
I enjoyed this book, and will carry on to read the others in the series, but I didn't rush onto the 2nd one, I felt I needed a break in between continuing the story... this perhaps doesn't sound too positive, but overall I did enjoy it. I just needed a rest from the Blarney!Poverty, Humour, Love, Sex, Death, Scandal!

I really did enjoy it, it was 'just' the story of poor Irish families in Liverpool, but I felt such sympathy and also respect for their ways. I had a few tears during the telling and a few happy smiles too. It really was a lovely book and a light relief from some novels, nicely written and well narrated too.
A Surprise
