Summary

At long last, a final reckoning is coming for Frieda Klein....

In a north London high street, a runaway vehicle crashes to a halt. The man in the driving seat was murdered a week earlier. On Hampstead Heath, a bonfire blazes: in the flames lies the next victim. As autumn leaves fall, a serial killer runs amok in the capital, playing games with the police. The death toll is rising fast, and the investigation is floundering. But this is no ordinary killer, and every new victim is intended as a message to just one woman. Because psychologist Frieda Klein is in hiding. And someone is coming to find her....

Great end to the series and excellent narration

I’ve read all the others in the series, so this is the only one I’ve listened to, and I was really impressed with Beth Chalmers’ narration. Even though I already had my own idea of what the recurring characters sounded like, Chalmers’ version are so well done that none felt jarring or unrealistic.

The story and character interactions are a little different to the others in the series because of what’s led up to this point (without giving too much away), but it’s still really compelling and a strong finish to the series. The only let-down is that there are no books left in the series!

Filled a few hours on a lonely Tuesday.

First Nicci French, won't be going back. Nothing special for the genre.
The character's dialogue really narked at me. (all of them)
The Lola character alone made me wish i'd make more of an effort socially.

A fitting conclusion to a brilliant series

This is the final book in the Frieda Klein series. It is a very worthy finale and I enjoyed every word of this brilliantly constructed book. The plot was interesting and there were enough twists and turns to make me dizzy and the conclusion was satisfying.

I am bereft now that I've finished this wonderful series. I can't believe I wasn't sure whether to carry on with the series after listening to the first book. I didn't really like Frieda, but I'm so glad I persevered and Frieda gradually won me round. Such a great well drawn, totally realistic character.character. I'll miss the others too - Josef, Karlsson, Yvette, Olivia, Chloe, Reuben and Jack.
.
Excellent narration throughout the whole series by Beth Chalmers

Wonderful series!

Can't believe the negative reviews. I've really enjoyed every book in this series, perhaps enjoying each new one more than the last as I've got to know the characters and they become more familar. Beth Chalmers is such a great narrator and each character seemed so real to me, especially Frieda! I don't want to give anything away but I had tears in my eyes at the end, but I won't say why. I'm feeling a bit bereft now now I've finished the last one... think I'm going to have to read them all again! Thank you very much Nicci French for such a wonderful series!!

Excellent and engaging story

This was my first audible book and I loved it! Beautifully read and very easy to follow despite the many characters - and I haven’t read much Nicci French before. Would definitely recommend, especially for a holiday experience.

Good

Having read and enjoyed the whole series I was initially very put off by the poor reviews that the finale attracted however as it came on offer I decided to give it a go and it was much better than I'd been lead to believe. Not perhaps on a par with previous books but certainly worth it to see how it all ends
