As usual in this series the tale of gruesome murder is told with a good deal of warmth and humour. There is great mystery and turmoil tempered by the actions of a great team whose genuine humanity and honourable behaviour in looking out for the victims of crime and one another comes with a healthy dose of black humour to off set the dire nature of the crimes they investigate.

Another brilliant tale in this addictive series.

I've listened to every book in the series. This feels like one of the weaker episodes - with the team being more reactive to events than investigating. Also, the worrying trend of Rhys Dylan putting his own unkind views in the mouth of his characters seems to have increased in this book. It's been going on a while out of context. But I noticed it more this time.

These are great characters and are smart and often kind and thoughtful. To have the author insert "you can't say anything anymore" type Daily Mail viewpoints into their mouth - especially about immigration and mental health/neurodiversity is rather unpleasant. It's also rather jarring. Record scratch, you're straight out of the narrative.

These views don't even make sense for otherwise kind characters like Gil. You can't show characters being caring and looking out for vulnerable kids, and those in danger, and then the next minute have them imply neurodiversity is trendy and made up. Look, I'm not saying we shouldn't have politics in art, we definitely should. But forcing your awful opinions into characters who are clearly too nice to share them, even though you created those characters. just means the book doesn't ring true,

Audible please stop these “recommendations!! “ it makes the book impossible to close down and then I can’t get to the next novel!

Great story, love the characters

These books are great as the main story has twists and turns but also many “human factors” which bring characters to life with sub-plots. I listen on audio book and must compliment the narrator both on character voices and correct pronunciations of both the Welsh and English language. Good geographic references as i know the area but learnt to forgive “artistic licence” on detail to make the story work 😂😂 after it is fiction ….but great fiction as all fully plausible.

Good but not quite to the usual standard. The balance between the case and the personal too heavy on the personal to me. As usual the narrator’s somewhat eccentric emphasis in phrases occasionally grates, but not knowing how to pronounce Wear, as in Tyne and Wear, to sound like the word ‘weir’and not ‘where’ is just bizarre.
