About this listen
A wryly funny and moving account of an extraordinary life lived almost entirely in the public eye.
Teen idol at 15, international icon and founder of the Brat Pack at 20, and one of Hollywood's top stars to this day, Rob Lowe chronicles his experiences as a painfully misunderstood child actor in Ohio uprooted to the wild counterculture of mid-1970s Malibu, where he embarked on his unrelenting pursuit of a career in Hollywood.
The Outsiders placed Lowe at the birth of the modern youth movement in the entertainment industry. During his time on The West Wing, he witnessed the surreal nexus of show business and politics, both on the set and in the actual White House. And in between are deft and humorous stories of the wild excesses that marked the 80s, leading to his quest for family and sobriety.
Never mean-spirited or salacious, Lowe delivers unexpected glimpses into his successes, disappointments, relationships, and one-of-a-kind encounters with people who shaped our world over the last 25 years. These stories are as entertaining as they are unforgettable.

What made the experience of listening to Stories I Only Tell My Friends the most enjoyable?
Rob Lowe has a great story and he has written it with honesty and integrity. It is also self deprecating and funny with a star studded cast en route. I was never bored and loved every moment. What did you like best about this story?
That he wrote it and read it so well - he gives 100% to the reading of the book and really makes it come alive with his punchy delivery and multiple voices. What does Rob Lowe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Himself. The listener gets a real connection direct from the author to listener. This is what makes audible so great. And he really is an excellent reader. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
His honesty about his problems with alcohol, his relationship with his parents, his love for his family and the rather poor way he was treated on 'The West Wing' given his contribution to the series.Any additional comments?
Simply a great memoir that is hugely entertaining and a joy to listen to.Brilliantly read and utterly compelling memoir

Deals more with the early part of his career and skims over the more scintillating details. But very enjoyable none the less.

Listening to Rob tell the story was a huge plus as often I don’t like the narrators voices and just prefer to read the book myself.
I can’t imagine anyone that likes Rob Lowe not loving this book - I hope he does another one soon where this one left off.
Full of names you wouldn’t even know he had come across in his career - an interesting life - just seems like a really nice guy too. Loved it!
