It was a strong face, certainly - the eyes pale grey and very cold, the mouth was hard, the dark hair - greystreaked now - still fell in the authentic comma over the forehead. 'This is how John Pearson reacted to his first encounter with the real James Bond, an encounter probably unique in the annals of thriller writing.

I found this book a bit average. However, it is relatively short and passed the time I suppose.

There's a sting in this 'tale'
This is probably John Gardner's best Bond novel so far. The story of religious fanatics and suicide bombings is terribly real, maybe more so since the last 15 years history. A very good story, and as always, superb narration by Simon Vance.

Definitely not the most exciting story featuring James bond I have listened too
The story at the beginning was mysterious, and exciting. However, I expected the climax and ending of it to be much better.
The audio performance by Simon Vance was extremely well done. Which is the best evidence that a great audio performance is no substitute for a great story from the beginning to the end.

James Bond vs Suicide Bombings
John Gardner writes spy novels that happen to feature James Bond. This one has Bond going against an arms dealer who also runs a religious cult that produces suicide bombers.
Takes about two hours to get moving but then the horror and suspense starts and you get going to the finish. No luxury or exotic locations, just a macabre and brutal psycological thriller.
One of the better Gardner Bond books and very well performed by Simon Vance.

one of Garner's better bond novels if not the best. bond is pitted against what seems to be a hopeless task; more so than usual.
