Story
M laid down his pipe and stared at it tetchily. 'We have no choice. We're just going to bring forward this other chap you've been preparing. But you didn't tell me his name.' 'It's Bond, sir,' the Chief of Staff replied. 'James Bond.' One body. Three bullets. 007 floats in the waters of Marseille, killed by an unknown hand. It's time for a new agent to step up. Time for a new weapon in the war against organised crime. It's time for James Bond to earn his licence to kill.

It was a strong face, certainly - the eyes pale grey and very cold, the mouth was hard, the dark hair - greystreaked now - still fell in the authentic comma over the forehead. 'This is how John Pearson reacted to his first encounter with the real James Bond, an encounter probably unique in the annals of thriller writing.

- By Mr John H on 23-12-12
Summary
It begins at a movie studio in Nice where a police raid goes horribly wrong, killing innocent men, women, and even children. It continues in an English prison, where a dead man discloses an intriguing secret about the brutal criminal organization called the Union. The trail leads James Bond to Paris, where he meets the tantalizing movie star Tylyn Mignonne and embarks on a voyage of sensual discovery.
But Tylyn is in mortal danger. Her husband, a volatile French film producer, has not forgiven his glamorous wife for ending their troubled marriage - and he is connected to the Union's thugs.
Meanwhile Bond's friend, French agent Mathis, has disappeared while tracking down the Union's mysterious leader, Le Gerant. Bond's journey takes him to a thrilling underwater brush with death, a chase through the Corsican wilderness, a surprise encounter with an old friend - and a final confrontation with a twisted criminal genius.

Oh dear me.....
I'm a fan of Bond. From the original Fleming books and early movies through the Moore movies (corney but loved) to the present and even the Gardner books from the eighties. But this is a terrible. Clichéd in all the wrong ways, formulaic and predictable. If somebody really insists on writing another Bond then go back to the early days and put yourself in the place of the first readers. Find the new, exotic, dangerous, "novel"? This is just poor rubbish and I won't be bothering with any more.

Narrator.....
Unfortunately the dour tone of the narrator makes what may well be an excellent book pretty much impossible to get in to.

Great read great finish could be a great movie
It had a bit of a slow start, and as usual for me,trying to keep all of the foreign names straight was a bit difficult. About a third of the way through the book the story and plot really took hold and kept me glued to the very end. This was a great read and I think would be a really great movie.

Solid Bond Story
I definitely enjoyed the book. It started off a little bit slow, but as the book went on you realize that that was on purpose. They did a lot of defining and explaining that made it very easy to visualize the text. It was performed very well. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Way too many illogical or impossible plot points
A few good scenes, but many ridiculous choices by characters and some serious plot errors.

Pretty good 007 book - feels like the real Bond
Keeps well within the style of Fleming. Pretty girls, fast cars, evil geniuses and armies of minions to dispatch. Narrator is the best.
