Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The book behind the hit BBC series SAS: Rogue Heroes, starring Connor Swindells, Jack O'Connell, Alfie Allen and Dominic West.

From the secret SAS archives and bestselling author Ben Macintyre: the first ever authorized history of the SAS, read by the author.

In the summer of 1941, at the height of the war in the Western Desert, a bored and eccentric young officer, David Stirling, has a vision for a new kind of war: attacking the enemy where they least expect it - from behind their own lines.

Despite the intense opposition of many in British High Command, Winston Churchill personally gives Stirling permission to recruit the toughest, brightest and most ruthless soldiers he can find. And so begins the most celebrated and mysterious military organisation in the world: the SAS.

With unprecedented access to the SAS secret files, unseen footage and exclusive interviews with its founder members, SAS: Rogue Heroes tells the remarkable story behind an extraordinary fighting force, and the immense cost of making it a reality.

Excellent book.

A totally enthralling read from start to finish. As soon as I had finished, I wanted to start at the beginning and read it all over again, but I resisted the temptation and will save it for later. The characters come to life, the scenes are well set and the narration just right.

Exceptional book

I don't usually review books but I just had to say how much I enjoyed this book. It is so compelling and full of amazing detail read wonderfully by the author.
This book brought alive the story of the SAS and the gloriously imperfect soldiers that will forever have my gratitude and admiration for their bravery, sacrifice and good humour.
I'm from Northern Ireland and live 3 miles from Paddy Maynes home what a character!! There is no doubt he was a flawed person but who isn't and in times of war we need people like him and his fellow soldiers to do what many couldn't bring themselves to do.
I loved this book and was sorry when it finished.

Yet more astonishing bravery from those who serve

The story is a fascinating story hidden for 70 years. It's hard to imagine the bravery and hardship endured by these pioneers and yet the overwhelming sense of suck it and see almost makes the adventures seem quaint. To consider it so, however, would do a grave disservice to those who feature here.

The author narrates himself and does so well - never being overly dramatic and instead allowing the tale to unfold naturally.

A great insight into the lives of the SAS in WWII.

Daring wartime adventures. The highs and lows of those immensely brave men, recounted in this wonderful book. By the end of the book, I felt a sense of pride hearing about their individual post war exploits and lives.
Respect.

Brilliant

This will remain one of my favourite books forever. The people in the book deserve to be heard, without them who knows what the world would be today. Factual, respectful. A must read and I will do something I would never do which listen or maybe next time read again.
