Summary

The rock-and-roll memoir of one of the world's greatest guitarists.

Yngwie Malmsteen's revolutionary guitar style - combining elements of classical music with the speed and volume of heavy metal - made him a staple of the 80s rock scene. Decades later, he's still a legend among guitarists, having sold 11 million albums and influenced generations of rockers since. In Relentless, Malmsteen shares his personal story, from the moment he burst onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere in the early 80s to become a household name in the annals of heavy metal. Along the way, he talks about his first bands, going solo, his songwriting and recording process, and the seedy side of the rock business.Malmsteen was named one of Time magazine's ten greatest electric guitar players.

The author's most recent album, Spellbound, was released in December 2012.

A Bit All Over the Place

Firstly it's somewhat misleading to advertise this book as being narrated by Yngwie himself. Yngwie reads an introduction and is then never heard again. The main narrator does a great job however.

Fans of Yngwie will know what to expect from this book. Yngwie is as full of himself as ever here and is characteristically unapologetic for it. The book begins with Yngwie ranting about Socialism of all things and ends with Yngwie, for the millionth time, stating how he must have total creative control over everything he does... yeah we get it.

Learning about Yngwies early, and surprisingly somewhat privileged, life was quite interesting. There's also some good gossip about Bonnet, Turner and some sleazy managers.

Overall I'd say only listen to this if you're an Yngwie fan, otherwise this will be a struggle.

Love you Yngwie, you the best!

I have another two hours till the end of the book but felt inclined to leave a review before I reach the end. Reason being, is because I’m loving the book so much that I just had to! Both Yngwie and the narrator are absolutely first class! I grew up listening to Yngwie and reading this book has made me realise that he is the ultimate best of all the guitarists I grew up listening to and have rediscovered him thanks to this book. He is in a league of his own, so prolific, and the book he has written is phenomenal. Yngwie is so inspiring. Love the guy even more after reading the book and enjoying every moment of it. The energy this guy possesses is just phenomenal, super driven and determined in all his pursuits, and sheer determination despite all odds. Whatever he sets his mind to he accomplishes. The will power he possesses is incredible. Can’t wait to listen to the rest of the book. Yngwie, love you man, and big respect to you for all that you accomplished. I know it’s not been easy for you along your journeys with all of life’s ups and downs but you have always been determined in everything you set out to to do and good job for getting through it all and being what you have become today, a legend. HUGE respect to you. You are really inspirational. The book has maximum stars from me. All one needs to do is listen to a single vibrato this guy creates on the guitar to sense the energy and passion this guy possesses, it says it all. So much guts! It’s not been easy for him, but he is one Relentless soul. Respect Yngwie
