Summary

A prince hiding his identity and a woman hiding hers - and sparks will fly when they have only each other to rely on....

Prince Éduard of Aviroux is hunting down the Great Whisperer, the spy helping the French nobility escape the guillotine, and he’s so close when thwarted by the delectable Giselle. In all his years, he has never seen a woman like her: resourceful, cunning, and ready for a fight.

What he doesn't realize is that she's just the spy for whom he's looking. Now trapped on an island together with food running out fast, Giselle is attracting his notice for all the wrong reasons, and it surely won't be long before secrets, as well as clothes, start to fly.

Will Éduard discover Giselle's terrible secret - or will he reveal some of his own? And can a perilous time with a prince ever lead to something more than just the heady delights of the flesh?

This is the prequel to the Ravishing Regencies series.

Great holiday listening

Stranded on a deserted island, Eduard and Giselle's suspicion of one another soon gives way to other feelings entirely. A short-but-saucy story to kick-off a series of interlinked (but relatively standalone) tales.

I enjoyed this novella, but I did feel that Eduard and Giselle's instant-love was a little out of place as the connection didn't really build enough to support it quite so early on. I would have preferred the realisation to come later, when they parted on the island. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all!

I also thought that Giselle's behaviour was rather incongruous with one purportedly 'innocent' prior to their first intimate encounter. I'm not sure that 'she's French!' is enough reason for her to approach the situation with such confident abandon, or so few concerns about ruination. Pregnancy would have cost her everything, including her main objective; finding her brother. That she gave this no pause seemed out of character for a spy living in her wits.

The writing is rather clunky throughout with a lot of clumsy repetition, but it is not so bad as to hinder my enjoyment. (For example: "She managed to get out of the boat after grabbing a small dagger from the bottom of the boat." Or, "Eduard could hardly admit it to himself, but if he was honest with himself he was a bit afraid of her.")

The narrator, Julia Eve, put in an engaging performance once more, handling the French accents well and contributing to the sense of peril in the more turbulent moments.

I'd recommend this audiobook to people who like HEA's, flamboyant historical romances, and the idea of being castaway with a handsome prince. The perfect holiday listening for a day on the beach!

Romance novel

If you are a romance novel fan, then you will enjoy this listen. It is short enough to get through in a day and is easy on the ears given the narrator has a lovely pleasant voice perfect for this type of book.

Drama, Drama

Giselle is forced to do things to save her family and Eduard is looking for her to join her. They meet and are not honest with each other. Can the lies be forgotten for an honest relationship or has too much been said and done.

Spies and romance

This was a fun listen. The storyline was charming and the characters were witty and clever. There was just enough flirting and steam to make things interesting. Overall a nice distraction.

Julia does a great job narrating. Her accents are great and easy to listen to. I'll enjoy listening to the rest of the series with her narration.

Covert activities breed mistrust & passion!

I have read this entire series and loved being swept away for a few hours on a whisper of intrigue and misadventure.
The sparks of instant attraction, romance and heated passion, fueled by an element of peril, forced confinement and the overpowering tidal wave of sexual tension, work well as Giselle and Éduard find themselves drawn to each other on an abandoned island, at dangerously crossed purposes, while they fight against the burning desire and unexpected intense emotion that hums between them.
Add to this the treat of listening to the tale, instead of reading it, brings the characters to life at a more potent level. Julia does a good job making the pair jump from the page and spring into life, representing their strong personalities, vulnerabilities and hopes and desires well.
A nice way to escape for a few hours!

A hot period romance with a French spy and a prince

Peril with a Prince is a hot period romance about a French spy who gets trapped on an island with a Prince. The story has a bit of intrigue and a lot of romance. These short, spicy romances are a bit difficult for me as they seem to progress at a rather unrealistic pace and the couples fall in love so fast, but so far this is one of the better ones in the series.

Recommended for mature readers only. Contains graphic sex scenes.

The narrator is well suited for these books. Her male voices could use some work, and some of the spicier scenes are occasionally cringeworthy, but overall she does a pretty good job.

Short, sweet and hot regency romance

This book was super cute! Giselle is a beauty who has been forced to spy and is on the run. Eduard is a prince searching for the Great Whisperer so he can help. Eduard never once thought that the whisperer could be a woman. He has no idea that he is trapped with the "man" he has been searching for.

This book was a short and sweet and honestly hot regency romance. I 100% am going to continue with this series!

The narrator was fantastic. She had a good french accent as well as an english one. It all flowed well together.

Excellent Audible book filled with intrigue!

I asked to receive this free review Audible book and wrote this unbiased review. This book is a must listen to. The narrator did a superb job of making the listener feel part of the story. She vividly displayed the emotions and desires of these characters. She held my attention from the beginning to the end. The author masterfully developed the characters and wrote a plot that will captivate the listener. You can't help but cheer for Eduard and Giselle. I found myself feeling the same anxieties that these two lovers did. This is a wonderful love story in the mist of unrest. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Loved the prince & Giselle

Ahh, a prince trying to escape the guillotine finds himself island bound after things go wrong. Fortunately he's stuck with the brilliant Giselle. Things get hairy, intimate and steamy before rescue. Prince Eduard doesn't know Giselle has secrets that my ruin the romance growing between the two. Great story by Emilly and performance by Julia Eve. I recommend this audiobook.

Enjoyable story, deceptions almost derail love

In a world of danger, two souls find each other, although they are being deceptive. This deception almost cost them their opportunity for love. Giselle was a strong woman, doing what she had to in order to protect family. I loved how Eduard wanted to help Giselle. Julia Eve put feeling into her narration. I have been enjoying this series.

I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
