Summary

For 12 years, the virtual world of Yggdrasil has served as the playground and battlefield for the skeletal lord Momonga and his guild of fellow monsters, Ainz Ooal Gown. But the guild's glory days are over, and the game is shutting down permanently. When Momonga logs in one last time just to be there when the servers go dark, something happens - and suddenly, fantasy is reality. A rogues' gallery of fanatically devoted NPCs is ready to obey his every order, but the world Momonga now inhabits is not the one he remembers. The game may be over, but the epic tale of Ainz Ooal Gown is only beginning....

Finally

After reading the ln, I'm happy that it exists in this form.
I can listen to it during work or driving. Would recommend even if you read the lns.

Great but some translation errors

All is great except these errors that given the time passed since the book translation should have been fixed already:

Chapter 2:
It still says in some parts that Bukubuku Chagama (Bubbling Teapot) and Peroroncino are sisters.

Chapter 5:
They talk about "monsters that could break a country called Nation Breakers". When in reality they are talking about Landfall (or Nation Breaker), a single being.

That said, I really liked it and I'm looking forward volume 2.

A GREAT start to the series!

This has been an audiobook I have been anticipating for a very long time. The wait has been very much worth it!! when I first listened to the audiobook at work I was so very well hooked by Chris's performance that I got halfway through the book before I had even realized it! Of course, I can't give Chris's performance enough praise! With him being the dubbed voice of Ainz in the anime, just hearing him read the lines from the light novel was worth it! I can only hope and pray that we get an audiobook of the other volumes soon, and that Chris will continue to narrate!

Need all of them now

I need all of the volumes yesterday I am a great fan of the anime series and the only reason I didn’t sit down and read them normally because of my dyslexia I would’ve absolutely loved all 15 of these books to be on audible

It Is About Time.

I've been waiting for this audiobook. in my opinion, this is one of the best light novels you can buy. If you are an fan of the anime, this is the novel for you. The fact that Chris Guerrero is reading the book is awesome. You have Ainz Ooal Gown reading to you. For myself, it was a wonderful experience listening to this book. I can't wait for the rest of the audiobooks to drop.

Love it

I already knew I loved the story. I enjoy the anime, and liked the light novels even better. I thought it was a great touch that the voice actor for the anime for Ainz is the narrator. He does a great job. I was thinking about re-visiting this series, and was thrilled that it is finally available in audio format as well.

This is not the typical "hero" series. This is a series about the "bad guy". Yes the main character is completely overpowered, but how they get from point a to b is where the interest is. There is also the fact that all the characters are.. well... characters.

So much more detail than the anime, best performance I’ve heard yet

To think how much more detail this covered compared to the anime is almost laughable. The entire novel is set up and world building for the most part, and it’s an excellent volume. The light novel is honestly so much better than the anime, if you enjoyed the anime I highly recommend this. It explains so much more about the guild, the game, the NPC’s and Momonga; it elaborates on everything to a high degree. The performance of the voice actor is one of the best I’ve ever heard, every voice is done so well, even the female voices are excellent and not at all cringe or hard to listen to. Definitely one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened too, and I’ve got over 46 on my audible account. It was also the best performance so far when comparing Yen audio. I thought both Solo leveling volume 1, and SAO volume 1 had very good performances, but both fall way short of Overlord volume 1. Don’t sleep on this audiobook!

An OK Start

I'm a massive fan of the Anime, so it is hard for me not to gush like many of the other reviewers because it reminds me so much of it and fills in some nice detail. However, if I rate it on its own merits, I feel the voice acting was lacking. At times it was difficult to distinguish which character was talking, and the female voices were just plain cringy. I probably could have done without all the shonen screaming too, but I guess that is par for the course. As for the story, I think it started off rather generic and slow, but knowing the story, I urge anyone who thinks the same to keep listening because this will eventually be one of your favorite stories in this genre, I guarantee it.
