Summary
Als Cynthia am Morgen nach einem Zechgelage mit dröhnendem Schädel erwacht, gilt ihre größte Sorge zunächst dem Papierkorb, in den sie sich offenbar während der Nacht erbrochen hat. Bevor die Eltern den Alkoholexzess des Teenagers bemerken, muss das Ding schleunigst gereinigt werden. Doch schon während sie sich im Bad zu schaffen macht, ist ihr, als sei es irgendwie viel zu still im Haus. Ihre Eltern und auch ihr Bruder haben ganz offensichtlich das Haus heute schon weit vor der Zeit verlassen. Doch warum? Und: wohin?
Tatsächlich bleiben die Drei auf Dauer wie vom Erdboden verschluckt. Und Cynthia plagen Selbstvorwürfe. Aber sollte das Verschwinden tatsächlich mit ihrem im Streit herausgebrüllten Wunsch "Ich wollte, ihr wäret tot" zu tun haben? Das wäre doch vollkommen absurd! Oder? Ein Vierteljahrhundert lang bleibt das Verschwinden ihrer Familie für Cynthia ein dunkles Rätsel, da holt sie die rätselhafte Vergangenheit mit einem Mal wieder ein und lässt die Ereignisse in einem äußerst gruseligen Licht erscheinen.
