Great conclusion to the Promise Falls trilogy...

I loved the previous two books to this series. Great small-town America drama. Book 3, "The Twenty Three", doesn't disappoint. Well paced with plenty of action and a decent ending that I didn't see coming. Good job LB!

Just love Linwood Barkley’s writing style.

I’m listening to Linwood’s books for the 2nd time. Love his characters. And thier quirky little ways. Not to re listen another one.

A good book, kept me guessing to the end

Would you consider the audio edition of The Twenty-Three to be better than the print version?

The only thing I didn't like was Jeff Hardings' American drawl, and he was even worse doing the female voices! The previous two Promise Falls books had great narrators.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked the police officer Barry Duckworth who added comedy intervals with his endless battle with cake!

What three words best describe Jeff Harding’s performance?

Annoying whining drawl

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh in places, and at times exasperated as the prime suspects kept getting killed off.

Any additional comments?

The Promise Falls trilogy needs to be read in order obviously. The last book has all the answers but it still leaves it open to further books. I really enjoyed these books.

Not my favourite of the Promise Falls series

Didn’t enjoy the narrator especially when he was reading the female or child text. Really off putting.

Keeps you guessing till the end.

I've 'read' all of this author's books & have never been disappointed. This book has a very intriguing plot with lots of twists and turns.

I'm definitely not moving to Promise Falls!

I thought Broken Promise was okay, but really enjoyed Far From True and this third and final book in the trilogy, was for me the best. I'd definitely recommend reading or listening to the other two first though. The story has several plot lines running in tandem and I like the way he uses characters from earlier books, although I haven't read all of his earlier books. I enjoyed Jeff Harding's narration, although some of his female characters can be a little whinny. I don't want to spoil the plot, but you'll be thinking twice before drinking tap water whilst you listen to this book.

awful nasal ridiculous voice narrator

I've been listening to this series and most narrators have been good but this one makes me want to launch my phone. sounds a bit like a bloody cartoon voice. really grating.

Finally concluded but terrible performance.

What did you like most about The Twenty-Three?
After reading several books about in the Promise Falls series and never having the significance of the number 23 explained. It is finally concluded in this book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Twenty-Three?
The conclusion. Who was responsible for the number 23 and the reason why is finally explained.

What aspect of Jeff Harding’s performance might you have changed?
All of it. They should've got a different actor. Jeff Harding is a terrible performer. His intonation never changes throughout the whole story and I cringe every time I hear him do the female or child voices. He over does it and makes the voices sound ridiculous and cartoon-like. Fine if he's playing characters from 'Little Britain' but for a serious drama - it's just awful. I'm sorry to sound harsh but it astonishes me how such terrible actors get these jobs.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
See last question. It was through the whole book. I cringed at the actor's performance and pray that he doesn't narrate any more books.

Really irritating narrator voice

I was excited to read the third in this series but I’m struggling to get through it as the narrator reads each sentence likes he’s reading a list and uses an over the top, caricature like voice when he’s speaking women’s lines. It’s making it very hard to enjoy the story.
