Probably my favourite volume so far, I found myself smiling and laughing throughout. The Sylphie and Rudeus romance was beautiful, and I finally understand what girls who read romance books mean when they say they kick their feet in the air and scream while reading some of these cute moments.

Their relationship felt genuine, but the most powerful and important part was how, because of this and her support, Rudy was able to overcome his ailment. You could argue that using erectile dysfunction as a metaphor for his abandonment issues, self-confidence, depression and trauma caused by Eris and his horrendous journey full of loss across the world, is perhaps a childish writing choice. But I say, this is fitting for our character and this story, and I couldn’t imagine something more Mushoku Tensei than this being the case. The terror Rudy felt as he woke up, expecting her to be gone, the relief afterwards, and even before, all the caution and genuine fear to even consider anything of that nature, it hit me on an emotional level. Anyone with long-standing trauma or abandonment issues will be able to feel a lot from this one, perhaps even more than volume 7.

Badigadi’s introduction was also hilarious, and I love the character already, and the Nanoshi reveal, followed by Rudeus’s trauma from Orsted being brought up, was also a great moment. The extra chapter about Eris and Nina was enjoyable, and it was nice to see what Eris is doing. Once again, it highlighted just how impactful Eris and Rudy are on each other's lives, as well as on different characters in the world.

Book 10?
I'm kind of on the edge of my seat here.
Enjoyed this book as always and it's nice to see the extra detail that the anime left out. Especially when it comes to Sylphy.
