About this listen

LITTLE SISTERS MAKE BIG PROBLEMS!

Rudeus has adventured across continents and survived run-ins with gods--and none of it has prepared him to watch Aisha and Norn when Paul leaves them temporarily in his care. Can he rise to the occasion yet again, or will parenting two preteen girls be the ordeal that ultimately defeats him?!

There is a lot to unpack in this volume, and all of it is heavy-hitting. Reunited with his little sisters after such a long time, we are given sibling drama, mainly in relation to Norn. Eventually, Norn becomes a shut-in, and Rudy does everything he can to prevent her from ending up like his past self, culminating in a heartwarming moment of vulnerability and bonding for both.

Aisha is a welcome addition to the supporting cast, adding more comedy alongside Badigadi, and Sylphie’s pregnancy announcement was also a huge moment.

But of course, it can’t stay perfect, and we are thrown back into the mental struggle as Rudy is given two choices, both of which have major consequences. From the push of Norn, he travels to go and save Zenith with Elinalise.

The world of Begaritt was super interesting, and learning more about just how dark the actions of Laplace really were was a culture shock for both the reader and Rudy. It is a painful experience, travelling in a land where, due to the Succubi that Laplace set upon the land, the men and women have gone 500 years without the concept of marriage and monogamy. Only knowing to give birth to warriors to survive, which makes the loss of the father of one of the female warriors' children an extremely heavy moment. Watching a parent die in front of him, in a land where the children may never even get to see their parents, hit very close to him for Rudeus, and it really showed just how scary the other regions are, and how dangerous Laplace was.

The chapter about Norn and Cliff was also a great development for both characters, showing just how much they love Rudeus and Elinalise, respectively.

At points, it may feel like not a lot happens in this chapter, however its clear that its setting up the main plot points to come. With that in mind it is still an enjoyable chapter that dies a good job introducing some new side characters as well as expanding the world as a whole.

The narration is quality as always. I'm consistently impressed with the range of voices the narrator can perform.

The continued quality of the overall product.
