Summary

Beast has been disfigured in a fire, but he's covered his skin with tattoos to make sure no one mistakes his scars for weakness. The accident not only hurt his body, but damaged his soul and self-esteem, so he's wrapped himself in a tight cocoon of violence and mayhem where no one can reach him.

Until one night, when he finds a young man covered in blood in their clubhouse. Sweet, innocent, and as beautiful as an angel fallen from heaven, Laurent pulls on all of Beast's heartstrings.

In 1805, Laurent has no family, no means, and his eyesight is failing. To escape a life of poverty, he uses his beauty, but that only backfires and leads him to a catastrophe that changes his life forever. He takes one step into the abyss and is transported to the future, ready to fight for a life worth living.

What he doesn't expect in his way is a brutal, gruff wall of tattooed muscle with a tender side that only Laurent is allowed to touch. And yet, if Laurent ever wants to earn his freedom, he might have to tear out the heart of the very man who took care of him when it mattered most.

Contains mature themes.

Intriguing concept that works surprisingly well

When I first read the blurb on this book when it came out I was a little sceptical about how it could work, well a time travelling French book clerk from 1805, Laurent makes a pact with the “devil” and ends up falling for a scarred, tattooed member of the Kings of Hell MC, Beast, in 2017?
However K.A. Merikan, as usual, managed to draw you into this world and make it work.
Now it’s out on audiobook with the ever so talented Joel Leslie narrating and I have to say what was previously a 5 star book has now been made into 6 stars!
Joel brought Laurent and Beast to life in a way books just cannot do for me, especially with Joel’s excellent French accent he used for Laurent and the way he spoke in that particular way you would expect from the period of time Laurent came from. I hope he continues to narrate the rest of the series.

Marvelous performance of a thrilling book

This is a sexy story. Full of passion and grit, with a beautiful romance. Beast belongs to the Kings of Hell MC, and lives his life in darkness, after suffering horrendous burns to his once beautiful face, and wishes to find someone who will love him again. Laurent, centuries before, is an indentured servant who only wishes to be a free man, and to enjoy the secret desire he harbors for men. But his wish is fulfilled in the most treacherous way, and he takes a decision that will send him to the future and to Beast with a mission. There's so much to like about this story, Beast is such an appealing character, with such a vulnerability hidden by his muscles and growl, and a deep yearning for the angelic Laurent, who seems like the answer to his darkest prayer. Laurent is beautiful, tender hearted and naive, endearingly innocent about the new world he lives in, and isn't sure how to react to Beast, but their attraction jumps off the page and the passion is explosive. The paranormal element adds a horror movie flavor to the book, and sets the stage for the next book in the series. This is a fun read, and there are no one dimensional goody-two-shoes heroes, all the characters are flawed but extremely attractive and I loved every page. Joel Leslie is magnificent and makes Laurent come alive with his lovely French accent and his uncertainty and naivete, while perfectly hitting every emotional tone required for the scenes and making the intimate moments scorching hot. I loved his performance, he is one of the greatest actors I've ever heard.

This was so good *^*

Joel's narration was amazing and I can't wait to listen to the other books of the series *^*

One of the main character of this novel is Beast, a good giant, his appearance seemingly menacing and obscure, but within itself it is only a wounded and sensitive person, and which brings in even more scars than those covered by his coated body of tattoos.
Then we meet Laurent, a sweet and innocent boy who came from the 1800s, forced to make a covenant with the devil to escape the pain and fear that afflicted him in his day, and he finds himself in a completely new future with the Kings of Hell MC's members. Here he will learn how to adapt and love freedom, which in part characterizes our times, and do not forget the plastic, Laurent's true love after Beast xD
This book is dotted with sweet moments, because in the end you cannot help but cheer for their love, which will have to face a thousand puzzles and difficulties, I mean, they even have to deal with the Devil in person, but this can't keep them separated.
And I feel like the important message this novel wants to infuse is that you have to look beyond a person's outward appearance, because as you can't judge a book from the cover, you can't judge someone from their appearance, and I can't agree more.

Now I will just wait to listen to Knight and Elliot's story *--* ♡

Did NOT want to like this book...BUT...

K.A., just when I was about to throw my Kindle against a wall, you halted the swing with another twist! Although I found these boys "insecurities" a bit out of place most of the time, and that element of the up and down between Beast and Laurent in this book was frustrating to me, you pulled enough together to make it intriguing enough to think "ok..5 more minutes"...and voila...back into it I'd fall. I was pleasantly surprised after all.

Joel, one of your better ones. I didn't feel like you were going to expire or fall into a fainting fit every time you spoke and there were good vocal characterizations in this one that I haven't heard from you before. Good job. Keep up this kind of narrative maturity!

Listener, I say try this one. It's not your run of the mill story, and it does have some strong elements of emotion and action that I think you'll find intriguing. My only suggestion is to "hang in there" when you want to pitch the Kindle against the wall! It comes together in ways and at times I didn't expect.

love the book. seriously my favorite series. well top 3 but I really didn't like the voice of the person performing it. I liked his voice for Laurent but that was it. the others were too much alike and just ....dumb to me.
