Summary

This boxed set includes books 4 - 6 in the national best-selling Laurel McKay humorous cozy mysteries by award-winning author Cindy Sample.

Dying for A Dude (Book 4) - 2015 Lefty Award Finalist Best Humorous Mystery and 2015 Next Generation Indie Award Finalist Best Mystery.

When Laurel McKay agrees to perform with the Sassy Saloon Gals during Hangtown's annual Wagon Train parade, her greatest fear is a wardrobe malfunction. Before she can lace up her corset, a 150-year-old skeleton turns up on her grandmother's property. Did Laurel's great-great-grandfather murder his mining partner? Gran insists not and wants Laurel to prove it.

Then the body of a prominent citizen is discovered dangling above a Main Street hotel shortly after Laurel's ex-husband decked him. When her detective boyfriend throws her ex in jail for murder, Laurel, with the help of her zany friends and family, must find the real killer.

Juggling two kids, a new boss, a wilting romance, and two murder investigations would be enough to turn any woman into a chocolate addict. Extra pounds are the least of Laurel's worries as she and her Mustang-driving octogenarian grandmother try to unearth some long-buried secrets before the killer adds their names to Hangtown's bloody history.

Dying for A Donut (Book 5) - 2016 Lefty Award Finalist Best Humorous Mystery and 2018 Chanticleer Murder & Mayhem Finalist.

To Laurel McKay, there is nothing better than spending an autumn afternoon munching on caramel apples and cinnamon donuts. It's a good thing her daughter Jenna has landed a seasonal job at Apple Tree Farm and Bakery.

Then Laurel stumbles over the bakery owner coated in powdered sugar. Axel Thorson was a well-respected member of the community. Who wanted to sweeten him up?

When the police arrest the heartthrob grandson of the bakery manager, Jenna decides to help him by solving the case herself, a move that lands her in jail. With Laurel's detective honey in another state, and her octogenarian grandmother threatening to chase down the culprit, what's a soccer mom with a sweet tooth to do but go undercover.

Dessert recipes included.

Dying for A Diamond (Book 6) - 2018 lefty Award Finalist Best Humorous Mystery

When newlyweds Laurel McKay and Tom Hunter embark on their honeymoon cruise, they look forward to sunny days exploring the Caribbean islands and intimate evenings together. Their dream quickly goes "poof", when Laurel's family decides to tag along.

Laurel witnesses someone going overboard...and the chief of security gives Laurel's sighting the same credibility as an alien landing.

When a murder occurs, and a family member becomes the top suspect, Laurel is determined to unmask the killer before her dream honeymoon becomes a nautical nightmare.

Wow triple the laughs and adventure

Wow. I don't normally like to listen to books from the same series straight after each other because otherwise I get confused but once I finished one book in this collection I was onto the next. I loved it. This is book four to six in one of my favourite series and this collection of books doesn't disappoint. The reason I love it so much is this talented author has created a wonderfully light hearted and humours mystery to entertain everyone, I have even got my mum hooked on the series now.The characters are bright, quirky and above all like able, making them great to spend time with.
Dying for a dude
The book is well balanced with humour, family life drama and of course two investigations to solve. The mysteries were interesting and with so much going on it was very entertaining as the mystery is unravelled. A great book that I would recommend.
When Laurel gets a phone call from her Grandmother saying her mother is missing, Laurel never expected to find her at the bottom of a mine shaft or for her to have company down there, in the form a skeleton. When a bullet is found and a connection to her Great-great grandfather, her Grandmother asks her to clear his name. At the same time her ex husband gets into a fight with his boss when the boss wants to save money by cutting corners on a restoration job. The man is running for mayor despite his less than popular reputation. So when he is found dead Laurel's current boyfriend has no choice but arrest him. With the father of her children on the book for murder Laurel is determined to clear both his and her grant grandfathers name. All before the highlight of the year for the small town, Hangtown's annual Wagon Train parade takes place. He best friend still expects her to preform in the parade and her boss at the bank want her to win him the best decorated business award. Here children want there father home, her mother wants the murder in the mine solved so she can list Laurel grandmother's house and Laurel just wants some quite time with her boyfriend......if she still has a boyfriend.

Dying for a donut
The characters are wonderfully entertaining and a real treat. Where else are going to find an octogenarian wanting to start her own detective agency? Even Laurel's teenage daughter gets in on the investigation this time around with some interesting results. There is so much going on in this mystery from trying to keep her job at the bank to worries over the men in there lives being away on assignment. But I think it is the mystery that I really enjoyed in this book. I never had a clue who the killer was, despite the clues.
Laurel teenage daughter, Jenna, has landed a job for the summer, at Apple tree Farm and bakery and the worse that Laurel expected was struggle with the early morning starts. Instead her daughter is being bullied, she's eating to many donuts and she stumbles over her daughter's boss covered in cloud and very much dead. The bad boy employee who was tired for theft is quickly blamed but Jenna has a soft spot for the underdog and starts her own investigation. She lands herself in jail when her investigating gets her noticed by the police and with Laurel's boyfriend and the detective who would normally be in charge away, Laurel decides the only way to help her daughter and her friend is to find the real killer herself. And what better way than by having the bank sponsor the local Apple farms in the area, giving her plenty of opportunity to question her suspects and still hopefully keep her job at the bank by bringing in new customers. Donuts might be sweet but murder is anything but and Laurel will do anything to keep her daughter out of harm's way.

Dying for a diamond
The mystery was non stop and with two cases it took a number of turns and kept me guessing, not only over who the killer and thief was but also who the first victim was. I loved the fact that it all took place on a ship so all the suspects were in one place and easy to question. This also made the story easy to imagine. I can't wait to start the next book of book collection, especially as with the end of this book the author is taking the characters in a new direction with the next book.
Laurel and Tom are about to start there honeymoon, only to discover they aren't alone. With the cruise ship only half full the rest of Laurel's family have decide they can't miss out on a bargain and are joining the happy couple. As if that wasn't had enough, the first night Laurel witnesses somebody falling over board but because she had had a few drinks nobody believes her. With no passenger or crew missing Laurel starts to doubt herself. Then Laurel's gay best friend finds the dead body of the chief of security, the one man who Laurel got to promise he would take a closer look at her claims. Did he find something? Or was it personal? Like an argument with a girlfriend? The boat also has other problems besides a dead body and maybe a missing person, somebody is stealing jewerly. When Laurel 's cousin is accused of being the thief, it also appears that somebody is setting her up to take the fall as the murderer. Can Laurel and the rest of her family, the detectives and the want to be detectives, clear her name, catch a killer, stop a thief and still put on a good show for the rest of the passengers. Or will this honeymoon be a wash out?
I liked the narrator. She does a really good job with the characters and I can't imagine anyone else doing such a good job. as she used some interesting voices to bring the characters to life, making it highly entertaining.
