Summary
In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. Every year at Easter time, many believers now celebrate Passover meals (known as Seders) seeking to understand exactly what happened at Jesus' final Passover, the night before he was crucified. Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes. Using his in-depth knowledge of the Bible and ancient Judaism, Dr. Brant Pitre answers questions such as:
- What were the Jewish hopes for the Messiah?
- What was Jesus' purpose in instituting the Eucharist during the feast of Passover?
- And, most important of all, what did Jesus mean when he said, "This is my body...This is my blood"?
Inspiring and informative, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist is a groundbreaking work that is sure to illuminate one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith: the mystery of Jesus' presence in "the breaking of the bread".

For Catholics Only?
This was very interesting and informative. Geared more towards Catholics than the rest of us as Christians. The use of the Catholic Bible, excludes us from fully understanding all of the points made (& even the shared Gospel texts are different).
I learned with interest the take on the Passover meal - 4 wines - and the cup discussed in the Garden of Gethsemane. I found that very interesting and innovative. However I couldn’t fully embrace the concluding chapter and of course the reference to the CCC. But that is to be expected, as I am not a Catholic and found myself reacting as the Baptist Minister in the prologue, although I am equally not a Baptist, either.
I would encourage every Christian to listen to this. There are aspects of the book that appear theologically sound, that bound the Passover and the Lord’s supper together, whilst not answering (for me), why the Catholic Church advocates the taking of Mass 3 times a day - given the weight of symbolism!

Accessible and educational
As a Protestant completely new to the catholic view of the Eucharist I found this book very helpful. The author takes a difficult subject and makes it accessible seemingly without sacrificing the complexity. Whether or not one accepts the arguments made - which are all historical - one is very much deepened by this study. Highly recommend.

The best book Eucharist
This is just one awesome book, I haven't finished reading it but it's one of those really good books that you don't want to put down or stop listening. it connects the old Testament to the new Testament meaning of the Eucharist so well and I very highly recommend it

Excellent framing of New Testament
Listening to this book was wonderful. I listened to it on my way to appointments, on the bus, the tube/metro and even while going through my morning routine. I will repeat listening to it several times as there was so much information about contextualising the Eucharist in the light of Jewish tradition, which as a Catholic I had never been aware of. The continuities between the Jewish tradition and the Eucharist are actually beautiful and masterful, and we can see God’s design in everything. This knowledge brought me even closer to understanding Jesus and the mass. Highly recommend this. I think I will also buy the book so I can view all the references.

Mind-blowing and inspiring.
If you have ever doubted the authenticity of the Catholic Mass or that Jesus is the true Messiah, read this book. Drawing upon ancient Jewish and Christian texts, the author gives a wonderful account of the teachings of the Catholic Church on the Eucharist. Highly recommended to anyone seeking the Truth.
