Story
It took nearly two millennia for the enemies of the Catholic Church to realize they could not successfully attack the Church from the outside. Indeed, countless nemeses from Nero to Napoleon succeeded only in creating sympathy and martyrs for our Catholic Faith. That all changed in the mid-19th century, when clandestine societies populated by Modernists and Marxists hatched a plan to subvert the Catholic Church from within. Their goal: to change Her doctrine, Her liturgy, and Her mission.

While much has been done to counter false teaching over the last four decades, today the church faces even more insidious threats from outside and within. In A Church in Crisis: Pathways Forward, Martin offers a detailed look at the growing hostility to the Catholic Church and its teaching.

In The Bible Is a Catholic Book, Jimmy Akin shows how the Bible cannot exist apart from the church. In its origins and its formulation, in the truths it contains, in its careful preservation over the centuries, and in the prayerful study and elucidation of its mysteries, Scripture is inseparable from Catholicism. This is fitting, since both come from God for our salvation. If you're a Catholic who sometimes gets intimidated by the Bible, The Bible Is a Catholic Book will help you better understand and take pride in this gift that God gave the world through the church.

In Reasons to Believe, Scott Hahn, a convert to Catholicism, explains the "how and why" of the Catholic faith - drawing from Scripture, his own struggles, and those of other converts, as well as from everyday life and even natural science. Hahn shows that reason and revelation, as well as nature and the supernatural, are not opposed to one another; rather, they offer complementary evidence that God exists. He is someone, and He has a personality, a personal style, that is discernable and knowable.

Summary
“Brant Pitre is one of the most compelling theological writers on the scene today.” (Bishop Robert Barron)
Best-selling author of Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist casts new light on the Virgin Mary, illuminating her role in the Old and New Testaments.
Are Catholic teachings on Mary really biblical? Or are they the "traditions of men"? Should she be called the "Mother of God", or just the mother of Jesus? Did she actually remain a virgin her whole life, or do the "brothers of Jesus" refer to her other children? By praying to Mary, are Catholics worshiping her? And what does Mary have to do with the quest to understand Jesus?
In Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary, Dr. Pitre takes listeners step-by-step from the Garden of Eden to the Book of Revelation to reveal how deeply biblical Catholic beliefs about Mary really are. Dr. Pitre uses the Old Testament and ancient Judaism to unlock how the Bible itself teaches that Mary is in fact the new Eve, the Mother of God, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, and the new Ark of the Covenant.
Critic reviews
“Mystified by the way Catholics speak about Mary? Join the club! But if you - like me - have longed for a book that makes a good biblical case for Catholic teachings relating to Mary, then look no further! Brant Pitre has produced an absolutely riveting, page-turning read, surely the most thought-provoking and stimulating I have ever read on the subject.” (Chris Tilling, graduate tutor and senior lecturer in New Testament studies)
“I did not think a single book could be written about Mary that would excite and unite Catholic and Protestant readers - scholars, clergy and laity alike. What Pitre does with the Bible and Marian typology is clear and compelling. A joy to read, this is the best biblical study of Mary I have ever read. A true masterpiece.” (Scott Hahn, author of The Lamb's Supper and The Fourth Cup)
"Brant Pitre takes important theological truths and makes them not only interesting, but exciting. This book will revolutionize your understanding of the most important woman in history." (Jennifer Fulwiler, author of One Beautiful Dream)

Solid Biblical Teaching To End Misunderstanding of
At last, scriptural confirmation of what the Catholic church has been teaching since the beginning about Mary in a way that protestants can relate to. Hopefully this very important biblical exposition will open the way to understand why Mary is held in such high esteem and why she adds imeasurably to a full Christian life.

A masterpiece!
This is the first book I have reviewed with that description, and considering it's genre, that's saying something. Every part of this book took all the questions I had, have had or had not yet anticipated and answered them. The content is meticulously researched and the writer cites all his sources making clear links, with no ambiguity. This book has been a true gift, and I am delighted to have found it. I have been on a journey to fully understand the Catholicism I grew up in, and can't seem to walk away from, so that I can fully immerse myself into all the aspects of the Catholic church without reservation. Until now, the subject of Mary is one I had never been able to explain, defend or articulate. Now I know, now I can confidently finally call her my mother with the full understanding of why I do it and who she really is. Thank you Dr Pitre. The narrator is an absolute joy to listen to.....he believes the content and he engages you, as he takes you on this in depth learning journey. If you, like me have questions, or just need clear demonstrated truths that are biblically, culturally and historically sound regarding the role of Mary in the Catholic church, this book is one NOT to miss.

Outstanding - I highly recommend this book
I was raised by two Evangelical minister parents. So dinner-table discussion consisted of a lot of theology and Bible stories, etc. But there was very little about Mary, ever.
Fast forward, and later in life, I went through RCIA to become Catholic. One of the things that was a bit of a hindrance of understanding was the level of veneration/adoration Mary gets in the Catholic church. I had no frame of reference for it. There was so little in the Bible itself, or so I thought, and since I hadn't been raised with any lineage back to the Early Church Fathers or anything like that, it was so new.
So when I ran across this book, I was intrigued, because I LOVE diving into the Jewish roots of Christianity already, and to hear that there could be a greater understanding of Mary by looking at the Jewish roots, I was like "how in the world can they do that?" -- and boy was I pleasantly surprised!
This book has so much MEAT in it. It is so well-done. So well researched. So well laid out. I can't recommend it highly enough. Whether you're Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, or just curious, THIS IS A GREAT BOOK.
I come away from it wanting to listen again because there was so much I never knew, and never saw before, and now my eyes have been opened. Thank you.

Well reasoned well received
The author does a nice job describing Catholic Christian beliefs concerning Mary, Mother of God, and defending them against most of the more common attacks, The author demonstrates how so-called ‘un-biblical’, ‘controversial’ positions held by the Catholic Church are founded on Old Testament scriptures and widely (e.g., universally ) embraced traditions of the early Church. You may not believe what the Catholic Christian Church believes about Mary because of things you’ve learned or heard. The author’s clear, concise reasons for these beliefs are shared in ways that are open, kind, educational, and engaging.

My favorite book about Mary, Mother of God
I loved this book for the thorough and articulate unpacking of the many layers of the mysteries of the Virgin Mary. Now I understand more clearly my own unintentional relationship with her. She sought me out and brought me back to her son, in a way I have never known before. And now I can't get enough of her. So glad I found this book.
