I grew up in Hell’s Ankhor, and even though I’m 25, they all still see me as Ankh and Priest’s kid. Especially Gunnar. The Sargent has known me for years and watched me grow up. I would give anything to have him see me as the man I’ve become, instead of the scrawny boy I used to be, but it’s never going to happen. I need to face the fact that Gunnar will never be mine, but when a devastating revelation sweeps through the club and cuts me to the core, he’s the one I turn to.

Clay Moreno is a paid killer, just like his four brothers. It’s the family business - they fight together, they die together. Whether they’re working as a group or alone, they are a tight unit who protect their own. Clay drew the short straw on their latest mission: Assassinate the American president. He knew the case was going to be tough, but the last thing he expected to find was his mate...the president’s own son. The fact that he began the case with plans to seduce his way into the White House via that same son is beside the point.

Luke's life couldn't really get any worse. His parents have died; his family bar is failing; he's had to drop out of college; and he's now engaged in a custody battle with his grandparents over his younger brother. Adam is a drop-dead gorgeous lawyer, representing the grandparents in the custody battle. He isn't pleased to be representing such snobby clients, and he's definitely miffed to be shipped out to the Midwest for this case. But all that changes when he meets Luke. He's handsome, charming; he gets Adam's sense of humor, and definitely deserves to win the case.

Mild-mannered xenoarchaeologist Dr. Alec Coimheed and his best friend Dr. Clemy Armistead are certain that they've just found the ancient location of an apocryphal battle between demons and angels.
Whisked away on a rollicking adventure, Alec finds himself under the watchful eye of Rafe, a taciturn mountain of a man with a mysterious past. Working with the enigmatic Praesidium, which claims to have protected humanity for generations, Alec clashes with his ethereally handsome bodyguard.
As the New Watchers pursue the rambunctious pair across the globe, Alec and Rafe will have to battle ancient terrors and mythical creatures come to life. Racing to the ancient tomb of a fallen angel, Alec and Rafe may lose it all - and each other - to save the world.

Promising start to the series!
Overall: 4.25 Stars! Performance: 5 Stars! Story: 3.5 Stars In the Valleys of the Earth is R.R. Pearl's debut novel and as such, it shows a lot of promise. I liked Rafe and how protective he was of Alec. Alec, on the other hand, was a bit of an acquired taste. He seemed to excel in everything he did, be it in his profession as a xenoarchaeologist or in battle, which rubbed me the bad way. In the interest of trying to enjoy the book, I decided to just go with it and accept that Alec was a regular Indiana Jones and leave it at that. Their relationship developed a bit fast for my liking, and some of the s*x scenes seemed out of place and not particularly needed, which led to me ffwding those in favor of getting to the actual plot. *shrugs* I was really impressed with John York's narration. Going from Alec's Scottish brogue to Rafe's nearly robotic "proper" English accent to Clemmy's American one, and those of all the rest of the characters takes some serious talent. Bravo, Mr. York! The plot was interesting, fast-paced, action-packed, and kept my interest until the last page. As the first book in a series, it was good enough to make me want to listen to book 2 when it comes out.

Interesting mix of genres
As a fan of Dan Brown, Clive Cussler and Orson Scott Card and m/m romance, this book checked lots of boxes for me. The thriller aspects were well mixed with the world building and I found the character's profession of xenoarchaeologist a great change from the everyday. I cannot wait to find out more about all the secret organizations, who is a good guy and who might turn out to be a baddie and the backstories of all the characters. A wonderful set up for a new series I will definitely continue to follow. John York is a new audiobook performer for me and he did an excellent job with this book. I will definitely look for more of his work. His voices fit the characters and the emotions without going over the top and all the voices are distinct and well chosen.

Entertaining!
Being a fan of The Mummy and other archeology based films/stories, I was excited to read the book - life got in the way and was lucky enough to get the audiobook instead. Very happy to report that I enjoyed the story :) It has a mysterious artifact, villains who want said artifact, a couple of fearless scholars/archeologists, a secretive love interest, mythology, action and adventure - what's not to enjoy? :). Really looking forward to the next story! John York does a really good job with the narration - distinct character voices, enjoyed the emotions/inflections. Made this a great way to enjoy the book. Hope to hear more from him and read more from the author.

I NEED MORE!! Are you listening, RR Pearl?? MORE!!
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted the audio file of this book. Don't you just LOVE it when you get totally blown away by a book?? AND the narration?? This book, right here! Alexander finds himself in the middle of an age old war, between good and evil. But who can he really trust? I loved this book, I really did. There is a MUCH bigger picture that I'm not seeing yet, especially after that last chapter and epilogue. The story itself moves at speed, but it does take a little while to pick up that speed. Once it does, it does not let go. It reminded me a little of another archaeologist who gets up to lots of adventures! There are many references to the Book of Enoch, but you don't need to be familiar with it, when Alexander quotes, he explains. I fear there is much we haven't been told yet, but that's not a bad thing, not at all! I love being kept on my toes! I love the hints though, that make you think, make you *try* to put it together, butI can't yet, not properly! Rafe drops a LOT of hints! John York narrates. I've not listened to him before and I really enjoyed his narration! His reading voice is deep and even, with a vaguely English accent, but I can't be certain with my rubbish hearing. His voices are all clearly identifiable and the accents for all the characters are spot on. So many accents delivered here! My only niggle for the book and the narration is this: only Alexander has a say. Rafe has MUCH to say, I think, especially with all the hints he keeps dropping and the dreams Alexander has, but Rafe isn't given a voice and I wanted him to! Not enough to detract from my 5 star rating though, but just because I'm greddy and like to hear from everyone! Given that lots of other characters are given a voice, but not Rafe, it annoyed me, is all! Given the cliffhanger of an ending, and that this is the author's FIRST book, and that I was fully engaged from start to finish, I need more! I NEED MORE!! Are you listening, RR Pearl?? MORE!! So write quicker, if you please! 4.5 stars for the book (for not giving Rafe a voice!) 5 stars for the narration rounded up to 5 overall **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

Valleys of the Earth
I had this audiobook on my wish list for quite a while before I got a chance to listen to it. In principle it has a storyline that would grab my attention as I’m into classical history and action, but unfortunately I found it very slow going for the first 3-4 hours. It was interesting and engaging in places but I did find myself drifting off. John York did a great job narrating and helped keep me engaged.

A good debut!
The Story: This story quickly captured my attention and I was excited at the start. Then somewhere along the line, I got a bit lost and had to turn down the speed of the narration so I can try to understand what was going on. Alec is a good character with a bit of sass which I love. Clemy is also a great side-kick character who has Alec's back. Rafe? I'm still undecided on his character. Overall, I think I will continue with the series but I not on a "Omg, I need the next book" kind of level. Narration: I thoroughly enjoyed the narration for this story. It was easily to determine which character was speaking but again I did have to slow it down a bit to keep up with what was going on.

Gripping instalment
This was an action packed story with plenty of mystery and heat. The mystery surrounding Rafe was frustrating and annoying. There were no hints in regards to the secrecy that surrounded his character. Rafe and Alex had an insta love connection - the pull between them was strong and intense. I enjoyed Alex ogling and drooling over Rafe - I can’t say I blame him, I would have done the same. A gripping instalment with likeable characters.

An interesting adventure with a dash of Biblical & Mythology!
This is the first book in the Watchers series and canbe listened to as a standalone. A true action packed adventure that touches upon biblical themes snd mythologies. The story was interesting and compelling and the characters were well fleshed out and enjoyable. The writing style was gripping and I found myself quickly immersed in the fabulous world building created by the author. John York did a commendable audio delivery and his voice

Very entertaining!!!
So, yesterday, I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. As I began to listen to it, I was immediately immersed into an action-packed adventure. Think of a tiny bit of the Mummy, National Treasure, and The Davinci Code all thrown into the mix along with some biblical mythology, and a little bit of some hot MM action. I listened straight through. The narration was great. A lot of characters and lots of different accents. All were very distinctive so you are never confused as to who is speaking. RR Pearl is a new to me author. At least I don't recall reading anything by this author before. However, I have to say that John York and this author made a good combo. This was book one of the Watchers series and I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series if each book turns out as good as this one.

I'm incredibly impressed with his performance and the way he brings the characters to life. Even when he switches between different accents it's so smooth and doesn't pull you from the story. I need to binge listen more of his books he is so damn good!! 🥰 Now getting to the story, I really enjoyed this book. It was full of action and had some very sexy scences. But, the world building and history was amazing. I really loved the depth the author went through to pull information to enhance the plot. The thing I loved about Alex the most was his quirky history lessons in the worst of times. It made me giggle and added a lightness to the storyline that was very much needed when the action and suspense got a bit heavy. Rafe's constant secrets annoyed me a bit but by the end I understood why it was left like that. Just a heads up this book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. It's nothing major just an extension that definitely let's you know there will be another book to fill in the missing pieces of this book. Overall, great story and awesome adventure. I can't wait for the rest of the series to unfold! I was provided with a copy and voluntarily chose to leave a review. This is my honest review.

Such a wonderfully unique take on angels & demons.
In the Valleys of the Earth (audiobook) MMy Thoughts and Review: I loved the story behind the romance more than the romance in this tale. A lot of that has to do with my fascination over angels (even those fallen), the ones deemed “Watchers,” and the faraway lands where all the biblical acts took place (even those not canonized). Add the supernatural to an “Indiana Jones-esque” story and this old broad is all over it. I loved the characters, even if I did not love how fast the relationship moved between Rafe and Alec. Alas, who am I to judge, right? I mean if I were to come face to face with a gorgeous man, who happened to look like Bjorn Ironside, and who felt he had found his soul mate in me, and I didn’t get skeevy vibes off him, I might let him seduce me too. Just sayin.’ 🤣 The narrator of the story did an excellent job with all the accents. Both a new to me author and narrator and I am very much looking forward to book two by both. The Story: 4.50 🌟🌟🌟🌟. ✨ The Narration: 4.50 🌟🌟🌟🌟. ✨ Overall: 4.50 🌟🌟🌟🌟. ✨ I received a complimentary audio copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews to read and review. 🌈📚🌈

Xenoarcheology adventure series by debut author
In the Valleys of the Earth is the first book in The Watchers series by debut author R.R. Pearl. This is also the first narration I've listened to by John York. Dr. Alec Coimheed and his best friend Dr. Clemy Armistead are on a dig site looking for artifacts to prove the site was the location of an ancient battle between demons and angels. After finding multiple artifacts, the site is overrun by a group called the New Watchers intent on killing everyone and finding the artifacts themselves to release those imprisoned millennia ago. Rafe and the Praesideum are there to save Alec and Clemy from the dig site and then have them join in the continuing mission of defeating the New Watchers. Rafe and Alec grow closer as they continue their mission. In the Valleys of the Earth has quite a bit of world building, action, and the start of a romance between Alec and Rafe. Alec is the main character and much of the book is told from his POV. Rafe's character was not as fleshed out as I would have liked though, as he is trying to keep his identity a secret. It will be interesting to see where the author takes him. I liked Clemy's character quite a bit. She was fiercely loyal to Alec while bringing humor and level-headedness to the storyline and situations they find themselves in. There is a large cast of characters introduced in this book from all parts of the world. Narrator, John York, does a great job of giving each character their own unique voice. I did not really like Clemy's voice - She is described as a southern belle but does not have a matching accent. Though I give lots of credit to the narrator for being able to switch between all of the character voices in conversation easily. Overall, I'm excited to see where it goes from here the author takes this series. Would recommend this story and narration.

Really cool start to a new series
I knew who Rafe was, I think it was pretty obvious to me. I need the next book ASAP!!! Okay so, the biggest thing I had is that I wished it was told from dual POV. I really would have liked to be inside of Rafe's head. There was times that I was a little lost on what was going on, but over all it was pretty good. There were a lot of twists and turns that did keep you interested. There was also a lot of action going on. It did leave off on a cliff hanger, everything is pretty much up in the air, I can't wait for the next book in the series.

A Great New Series
This is the first book in The Watchers Series. What a sensational book the writing was great. I loved this book although it could have been a little clearer on the world building it was still a great story. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters fantastic. The characters were developed and thought out. Alec and Rafe are the MC’s of this book. The narration was done well. I can recommend this book as a good read/listen. And I can’t wait for the next book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Loved it!
This book was so good and had a lot of dramatic moments! This was such a great start to a series! The author did an amazing job drawing the reader in and keeping them guessing. The characters were also very engaging and kept me wanting to learn even more about them. The action was very intense and kept me on the edge of my seat since I didn’t know what would happen next. I loved these characters and this world! I’m so excited to find out what else this author is going to do with these characters and this world. I definitely need the next book! The narrator did a fantastic job and I seriously need the next book as soon as possible.

Very good
Enjoyed this one from both a new to me author and a new to me narrator! It was well written and thoughtful and was very compelling. I would definitely recommend this to those of you who enjoy fiction based on Biblical thoughts.

good listen
This book was pretty good. It had a lot of action in it which was good. The narrator did what I felt was a good job. The charters I had some trouble connecting with. I don't know if it was just me or not. The storyline was ok it seemed a bit predictable. Overall it was an ok listen.
