Summary

All the warmth and cheer of Christmas can't thaw a frozen heart.

To some, Christmas is a time of family and love. Moments to cherish and joy to share. But not for Ebenezer Scrooge. After the tragic loss of his wife Marley, Christmas has become a beacon to grief, and a life long since lost.

This Christmas Eve, his wife will return. But, will Ebenezer have the strength to confront a painful past in order to save a once-promising future?

A great reimagining with perfect audio experience

I was gifted a copy of the audio book in exchange for a fair review.

A Christmas Carol: a timeless tale of the meaning of Christmas and it seems there are no end of ways to reimagine this story.

In this short version set in the modern era, Ebenezer Scrooge is a man pained by the death of his wife Marley. She comes to him one Christmas Eve to beg him to let go. The rest of the story you essentially know, and the ghosts that visit him are adapted with this new perspective in mind.

One word: wow. I have to commend everything here, from presenting Scrooge as a man who has become a misanthrope in his grief and the effect that has had on the people who used to love and care for him and his wife.

This is a story about mourning and how we are all at risk of being broken shells of our former selves when we don't move on. To do so through the lens of one of the greatest ever Christmas tales was a shrewd move that worked incredibly well.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
