About this listen

Six friends. One college reunion. One unsolved murder.

Ten years after graduation, Jessica Miller has planned her triumphant return to her Southern, elite Duquette University, down to the envious whispers that are sure to follow in her wake. Everyone is going to see the girl she wants them to see - confident, beautiful, indifferent. Not the girl she was when she left campus, back when Heather Shelby's murder fractured everything, including the tight bond linking the six friends she'd been closest to since freshman year.

But not everyone is ready to move on. Not everyone left Duquette 10 years ago, and not everyone can let Heather's murder go unsolved. Someone is determined to trap the real killer, to make the guilty pay. When the six friends are reunited, they will be forced to confront what happened that night - and the years' worth of secrets each of them would do anything to keep hidden.

Told in racing dual timelines, with a dark campus setting and a darker look at friendship, love, obsession, and ambition, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is an addictive, propulsive story.

If this book is still available in the free catalogue I would 100% recommend but if using a credit I would use it on ‘This Book Will Bury Me’ by the same author

A great listen!

Good story and interesting characters, a lot of back and forth timelines hard to keep track off and a lot of characters introduced quickly at the start hard to keep track of

Good story, quite drawn out

This story is in the ‘dark academia’ plus reunion genre of thriller. It reads like YA book or satire without humour, as every single character is utterly unpleasant. It also seemed to be plucked straight out of the 40s or 50s as the characters were so old fashioned. The female characters all seemed to want to settle down and marry their college boyfriends and everyone’s motivations seemed far removed from young students. Having said that, it’s a US campus which is far removed from British uni’s; who goes to college wearing blazers! I kept waiting for the ‘me too’ moment for the female lead but she definitely can’t be accused of being ‘woke’.

this book could have been about 2 hours shorter. but the story as good as was the narration which kept me listening

A bit drawn out

this voice doesn’t suit the main character, but the book was interesting, morally gray characters with a bunch of secrets
