The #1 bestseller

Packed with hard-won wisdoms and gentle revelations, this is Miranda's honest exploration of the lessons that have helped her.

Hello to you, I am with news. I have a new book: I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You. I know – what an intriguing title!

Basically, I have had an unexpectedly difficult decade – there have been surprising joys but also deep revelations and challenging lows. I shall be honest about those, because what I discovered in the difficult times were my, what I call, treasures. Treasures – practical tools, values, ways, answers researched from some great scientists, neuroscientists, therapists, sociologists (all the ‘ists’) out there – that have genuinely led to a sense of freedom, joy, peace and physical recovery I never would have thought possible. Life now, amazingly, with what I will share is – SUCH FUN! (Always important to quote your own catch phrases…)

If you fancy having a read, then I hope my story might help your story. After all, we are in this beautiful, mysterious, challenging life together. Rest assured there are funny stories along the way – we will have a laugh too, my dear reader chum. Oh, and I couldn’t possibly say if there is a love story in it . . . (There is – shush.) Exciting!

'A bombshell, moving, inspirational. Hart passes on the tips that helped her emerge from psychological as much as physical doldrums. No comedian, female or male, has been so taken to the nation’s bosom since Victoria Wood' Independent

'A raw and poignant account. Miranda is more of an everywoman than ever before' The Times

'Miranda's account of slowly letting her guard down and being vulnerable is sweet and moving, and proof that happiness is possible even in the most trying times' Guardian

Editorial Review

Finding freedom, joy, peace, and fun with Miranda Hart
It was a few years ago that I binge-watched several seasons of the long-running British TV series Call the Midwife, and Camilla “Chummy” Noakes (played my Miranda Hart) quickly became a character who felt like a friend. Hampered by acute shyness, Chummy was nonetheless an adept midwife (if I were to have a baby in a London tenement, I’d want her by my side). Similarly, I welcome the sage advice offered by Hart in this revealing, informative, and very funny memoir. It’s prescriptive in the most useful of ways. She shares the “treasures” she’s collected—practical tools learned from scientists, neuroscientists, therapists, and sociologists that have helped her to heal physically and emotionally. She’s done the work and is here to help us, her fans, navigate our own journeys to health. — Tricia F., Audible Editor

Critic reviews

A raw and poignant account. Miranda is more of an everywoman than ever before
A bombshell, moving, inspirational. Hart passes on the tips that helped her emerge from psychological as much as physical doldrums. No comedian, female or male, has been so taken to the nation’s bosom since Victoria Wood
A wonderful book, filled with treasure
The wisest, kindest, bravest, most forgiving and generous book. A manual for gentleness
Wonderfully optimistic
Irrepressible and joyous. Taking us affectionately by the hand, Miranda takes us through her ten-year journey to deep self-knowledge. Along the way she picks up treasures, smashes old patterns of behaviour, and works out a code for how to live and what life's priorities should be. She describes memorable escapades from her past and can't repress her inner funniest girl in the dorm self
Packed with optimism and wisdom
Miranda's account of slowly letting her guard down and being vulnerable is sweet and moving, and proof that happiness is possible even in the most trying times
A memoir and a guide for those in a similar scenario, or indeed anyone feeling crushed and exhausted by modern life
This book is a real gem for therapists to recommend to clients. A rich introduction to some of the best self-help strategies from a trusted and much-loved icon. All the more powerful to read how Miranda discovered them via her own health crises; a painful read were it not softened by her comedic take on life's trials.

As someone with personal experience of chronic illness, Miranda's book was relatable and I felt less alone from listening to it. Though I'm almost fully recovered, I'm currently facing some mid life anxiety and her insights have reminded me of the importance of identifying and questioning the validity of negative self talk. It's inspired me with ideas about how I might manage anxiety, overwhelm, setbacks and challenges. I've recommended it to a couple of friends. It may be the right nudge at the right time for others, as it has been for me.

Insightful and honest, and funny of course

As someone who's had ME for quite a while now, I was really looking forward to hearing Miranda's story of living with this terrible disease, maybe negotiating the health system, a bit more about finding love, certainly plenty of funny antics (energy levels permitting). But I was also hoping for an honest account of how difficult it is to live within your limits, what going beyond them is actually like and how does she cope when life gets in the way....always after tips on that one.
Unfortunately, it seems as if Miranda has been given an awful lot of disinformation and advice which has since been discredited (see the current NICE guidelines on CBT, GET and the Lightning Process, not to mention that for the vast majority of us, ME followed a virus, nothing to do with boom or bust). The only things I gained from the 'treasures' were the practical parts of pacing that I've been doing since I was told them by an NHS OT over 16 years ago. Listen to your body, rest regularly, slow down and do something you enjoy.
However, if this is working for her, then I wish her well for the future. She deserves my support as a fellow pwME. ME is an awful disease that has been maligned for far too long. Miranda, I wish you a continued lack of crashes and happiness in your marriage.

Really enjoyed the story parts, but......

The perfect example of the generosity of person, who has suffered beyond my imagination, being prepared to, not only share the experience, but also to help pull others through the maze of 'Doctor Rejection' onto the path to wellness with her seriously ingenious ideas of how to stand back, internalise, then proceed to forth.

Brilliantly, sensitively and cleverly presented.

Pun intended. What a truly moving and inspiring account. I absolutely loved this audio book for the honesty, vulnerability and hope it shared.

A chest of treasures

The whole book from start to finish held me. I shed tears throughout. Especially at the end 🥹

I didn’t want this book to end.
