Let down by poor narration

I loved the first volume. I’m struggling with this one because of a very poor narration which makes it quite difficult to follow. The narrator swallows the end of many sentences. A pity.

Excellent book on British constitutional history

Perhaps the most comprehensive reference to British constitutional history between the Tudar period until the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. A fascinating period in history, written with wit and great knowledge by Scharma and delivered with class by West.

A well written well narrated account

I felt as if a door had opened. The account of British History told here is so much more than the dry inaccurate version I was taught. In my schooldays Cromwell was almost a blip. We barely touched on India and the Raj. I have enjoyed Timothy West’s mellifluous tone and am grateful to Simon Schama for such a well presented account.

Written with balance, performed with verve.

Although born and raised in Britain it's good to hear of the conquest of India. Schama is balanced in his writing so that the reader can absorb and come to their own conclusions. nevertheless, West is a superb, entertaining narrator.

Very informative and well presented

Very informative and well presented. My only reservations are around the American bias… I do however understand the author has spent a large proportion of his career in the USA. I look forward to the next book taking us from 1776 , US independence up the the dawn of our current 21st Century. The fact that I am moving to the next book is testament to the pleasure this books Lhasa brought to me.

Jaw dropping

They didn't teach me any of this at my (expensive) school in the 1980s - I am learning the true history of my country for the first time, and I am finally able to put into context what is happening to it now.

Great stuff, but there is no gap between sections

The only bad thing about it is that there is no gap between sections and chapters, the narrations starts immediately.

As well, the chapters could be titled, and the sections too.
