About this listen

When, in the course of a week, a young heroin addict is gunned down while trying to rob a convenience store, a narcotics dealer is found hanging from a bridge, and the granddaughter of a political bigwig dies of an overdose, Vermont detective Joe Gunther vows to stop the flow of drugs into his beloved state.

I'm gradually listening to all the Joe Gunther books in order and I'm enjoying them all. This was good, but not quite as good as the last one: The Sniper's Wife. On to the next one.....

Quite enjoyable

It’s not that the story is bad, it was fine but they are becoming tiresome. It’s more like a weekly TV drama than a book series.

Again, Joe and Gails “relationship”, is just tedious!

The stories in the books are, to me, completely separate from the characters, these books span years but there’s no dimension or growth in their characters. The way they behave is so gung ho and yet they’ve been in these professional roles for years, supposedly.

Yes, I know it’s fiction but it still has to make sense.

It’s fine to concentrate on the crime and I really don’t need to know about their personal lives but if all the adolescent insecurities are raised in every single book, which they are, then the relationships do need some depth to give us some insight. Otherwise we’re just listening to the pointless, endless moans of characters, and really as that’s all that ALL the “relationships“ represent then leave them out and concentrate just on the crimes.

I think this is my last Joe Gunther.

A good story and well narrated. I really enjoy the multiple imperfections in the characters.

Big fan

4.5* rounded down because of the ending which was a letdown, however the whole premise is good and throughout the Occam's Razor scenarios was surprisingly underplayed.

Intrigued

Never disappointed in this series of books. Really good listen wonderfully read every tale is very different moving the emphasis around different characters in the group makes for a very different tale.
