Summary

Joe Gunther, a longtime Vermont cop and now the head of the Vermont Bureau of Investigation, gets the call that every law-enforcement person hates: a cop has been shot and killed. A deputy sheriff was shot to death during a routine traffic stop on a dark country road.

From what can been seen on the cruiser's video recorder of the killers, it is believed that they were a couple of Boston-based drug runners who had been on their way from Canada down to Boston.

That's what brings Gunther and his team to the investigation: an attempt to shut down the major drug running operation, especially that of one Alan Budney. He's the disaffected son of a lobsterman, now a drug kingpin, who uses the closed, clannish lobster fishing community and his extended family in particular, to move drugs along the New England coast.

different Narrator

such a shame that a different narrator was used. totally distracted by the different voices that I lost track of the story on occasion and was just waiting for the book to finish. takes away from an overall excellent series

I understand

I saw the previous reviews complaining about the change in narrator and I get it. I agree with Julie that the narration seemed forced at the beginning and smoothed out towards the end. I agree it was a shock and disappointment in the voice changes and it was hard to distinguish them after hearing so many times before.

As for the story, I actually enjoyed it and for the curious it didn’t actually build on any character development so if the change puts you off now you can put your mind at ease that you are not missing anything.

Awful narration!

I’ve enjoyed the series of books. However, they changed the narrator for this one & the voices are awful, very put on & over the top. The narration ruined the story for me. Please bring back the original narrator!

Not as good as earlier books

The narrator was new and the voice was not my favourite. The story was mediocre and nothing different.

The narrator

The narrator. DON’T Ever change the narrator half way through a series. It ruins it

Never change the performer

This is an example of why you should never change the performer during a series

New narrator

Disliked new narrator at the beginning. He seemed to change the characters with forced vocals. But it eventually settled to become more natural.

Change of Reader!!

Complete disaster to change the narrator so far in to the Joe Gunther series .. I suggest this book is narrated again with the original narrator Tom Taylorson .. I couldn't listen to it .. the characters became lost to me because their voices were no longer the same .. I endured less than an hour before giving up .. a credit totally wasted!
