Brilliant story paired with the perfect narrator

This is a gritty fantasy novel with some of the most gloriously gory and visceral horror I’ve ever read.

The main characters are a merry band of misfits from different walks of life; Kendrick the Cold, former child soldier and misunderstood barbarian trying to redeem himself for his past crimes, Theron the hunter, debonair aristocrat and monster hunter who does everything with his own unique flair, Chayse, Theron’s sister and hunter in her own right and Aldous, confused and frightened teenager with more magic than anyone is allowed to have and live.

They find each other in a dungeon and team up to bring down the Emerald witch and her plague of zombie, pustule ridden wererats, among other supernatural beasties.

Though I wouldn’t say the characters are particularly complex, they’re all well written and have their own strengths and weaknesses which makes the story a pleasure to read, and gives more room for the author to describe the action and gore.

I both read the print and listened to the audiobook version of this book, so I can say with confidence that Mike Carnes knocks it out of the park – the battle scenes that were already action packed are elevated to something spectacular and the more emotional scenes almost broke my heart.

If you’re looking for a straightforward, violent fantasy novel to hit all the high notes – this is the series for you!

I was pleanty surprised with thus book, really good characters, with a nice progression. An apt amount of excitement, tension and adventure. Great battles, and the use of magic completed this epic adventure.

Epic

I really liked Fire and Sword. It was well written, I liked how the character's were developed, there was lots of magic, suspense and epic battles. It was very entertaining and I didn't notice the lengthy 11 hour run time. Mike Carnes also did a great job at tackling the various character voices, which were rich and vibrant.

I was given this book for free of my own choosing and voluntarily left this review.

Really enjoyed the story

I usually don't listen to sword and sorcery very much anymore, But I tried it and was pleasantly surprised, The narrator was great, really kept me in to the book. I won't spoil it but I was surprised by what happened at the end, I thought oh no here we go everything works out for the heroes and they saved the day. I really hate those stories. Well you're going to have to listen to it to find out what happened. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review

Sword, Sorcery and More

Fire and Sword is a fantasy novel focused on three characters specifically who work together to defeat evil and defend the people of their nation. The evil magic in this story assumes the form of monsters including hideous, disease infested, sharp toothed rats! The three fight epic battles using magic and their wit. Believed to be defeated, two of the heroes resurface and begin the fight again.
The author, Dylan Doose has a knack for prose providing detailed imagery and building a strong connection between the characters. Each character is well developed with authentic dialog. The plot flowed well with a few plot twists.
The narrator, Mike Carnes gives a solid performance. His voices were well done for each character. His cadence and delivery were consistent and strong. Carnes keeps the story moving forward at a steady pace. I enjoyed his performance.
I suspect the books going forward in this series will be more intense and filled with even more interesting characters and plot twists.
There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was clear and well produced.

Very drawing story

Having read all of these books, the audio really brings out the story, giving life to the book that I couldn’t do justicecto in my mind. The tale of Theron and Alduous is moving and full of potential that WILL BE LIVED UP TO! You will not regret buying this series!
