Summary

This is a new reading of the thrilling account of one of the most astonishing feats of exploration and human courage ever recorded.

In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world.

Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains. The book recounts a harrowing adventure, but ultimately it is the nobility of these men and their indefatigable will that shines through.

Enthralling

One of the best Audio books I have listened to. The story is gripping and the narrator imparts just the right amount of tension at key moments.
The mental and physical challenges encountered by Shackleton and his team was, and remains, the finest example of leadership and human endurance unsurpassed in modern day history.

Incredible!!! Totally engaging!

'By Endurance we Conquer' has been said before but never a truer word was said of these rare breed of men, the men of the Endurance led by the master of adversity, Shackleton.

Brilliant!

Probably the best audio book I’ve listened to. If this was fiction it would be dismissed as ludicrous! That it actually happened is astounding. Even though I knew the story and how it ended I still hung onto every word. Good narration too.

Compelling

An astonishing story from start to finish. The wonderfully understated return to civilisation sums the men involved in this epic survival up perfectly.
Narration is brilliantly delivered with wonderful accents and just the right amount of tension at the (many) difficult moments; I found myself wondering whether they would survive!
Highly recommended.
